The family of the man who had an eye gouged out by Tyson Fury’s father, has blasted the boxer’s smash hit Netflix series and say he can’t bear to watch it.

The heavyweight champ’s dad John Fury features in the reality show ‘At Home With The Furys’, which is currently number one on the streaming channel. John, 58, himself a former boxer, is portrayed as quietly spoken, in comparison to Tyson, and seen brewing cups of tea in a traditional picturesque wooden gypsy caravan. But in 2011 he was sentenced to 11 years jail for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Victim Oathie Sykes, now 57, told Manchester Crown Court he believed John wanted to completely blind him in the attack on him at a car auction on the morning of July 14, 2010. "It was like he was trying to pull his finger into my brains through my socket,” he said. “I was screaming, ‘Please stop, you’re hurting me.’ ”

A man claiming to be one of Oathie’s sons said he “liked Tyson” and what John did was “not his fault”. But he blasted the Netflix hit as “pathetic” and “a s*** Love Island kind of show”.

The violent bust up which led to Oathie losing an eye was thought to be the culmination of a 12 year feud involving a bottle of beer which erupted when the former pals were on a trip to Cyprus in 1999. John, who admitted the charge, appealed for leniency telling the court “If I could give my own eye to him to get back to my children I would do – I’m begging you for my life.”

John was released after four-and-a-half years behind bars. Oathie lives with his extended family in caravans on private land in the village of Sheriff Hutton, near York, North Yorkshire.

A man who gave his name as James and claimed to be one of Oathie’s sons slammed the Fury family for doing the reality show ‘just for the money’. “Oathie hasn’t watched the show, but I have and I think it is s*** and pathetic,” he said.

“A lot of people are seeing John in the limelight now, and they’ve seen Tyson, but they don’t understand what John has done in the past. “I like Tyson, what his dad has done to Oathie, is not his son’s fault. “I don’t know the man John, but from what I’ve seen he has done well for himself.

“I have watched the show and it is just a s*** Love Island kind of show. “There’s Tommy Fury and he’s got a bird and things. John is on it. A couple of the shows you quickly get quite bored of it. “It’s just the ins and outs of their lives, it isn’t anything special. “It’s a pathetic thing, money is behind it.”

At the time of John’s conviction a spokesman for the CPS said: “This was a sustained and unprovoked assault that led to a man losing an eye. “The fact the root of this dispute which originated more than 12 years ago was so trivial only serves to highlight the senseless nature of the attack.”
