Liverpool have signed teenagers Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo to boost their academy ranks.

Nyoni, who turned 16 in June, has joined from Championship side Leicester. The midfielder featured 13 times in the U18 Premier League and played in the FA Youth Cup last season. He's also been capped by England at U16 level but is eligible for Zimbabwe.

Nallo, who turns 17 in November, has left West Ham for Merseyside. The centre-back was recently described as a "Rolls Royce" by Hammers legend Carlton Cole and played against Nyoni in the U18 Premier League last season.

The pair will go into Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's U18 squad and could become the latest stars to graduate from Liverpool's flourishing academy. The likes of Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, Stefan Bajectic and Kaide Gordon have all emerged in recent years.

Liverpool were perhaps persuaded to swoop for the pair after reading some rave reviews. After Nyoni scored against Brighton in March, Leicester's U18 coach Adam Barradell said: "It's really good to see Trey get on the scoresheet with a great individual goal.

"He moved into the U18s squad just before Christmas and he’s getting to grips with U18s football. He’s a young boy and he’s had a good impact on the group which is pleasing to see."

Nyoni joined Leicester aged six and has said goodbye to the club on Instagram. He wrote: "I am grateful to all the players and staff at the club who have helped me develop over the past 10 years and I wish nothing but success to everyone at the club."

Nyoni knows exactly what it's like to lift trophies after helping England's U16 win the Montaigu Tournament earlier this year. The Young Lions won the annual competition by beating Japan on penalties in the final, although Nyoni didn't feature in that game.

Nallo, meanwhile, has received high praise from Cole. The former England striker is West Ham's U16 coach and insisted the youngster has a "high ceiling" after he signed his scholarship in May, expressing that opinion to the club's website.

Cole said: "I would describe Amara as a Rolls Royce of a centre-back. He has a great left foot and is elegant when he moves with the ball. He can play the ball with both feet and has been working on his heading as well. He’s a player who has a high ceiling."

Both Nyoni and Nallo have uploaded pictures of them holding a Liverpool shirt to Instagram. Nyoni was holding the No.8, while Nallo opted for the No.5.
