Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be renting out a new home in Kensington Palace to spend more time healing their fractured relationship with the rest of the royals, it has been reported.

The couple have been living in Montecito, California, after purchasing the nine-bedroom home for $14.65million (£11.8million) in 2020, just a few months after stepping back from the Royal Family. And it was recently reported that the couple are shaking things up with their residence, as they are hoping to swap out the upscale Santa Barbara neighbourhood for a place in Malibu for its close proximity to Los Angeles.

It is said that they are also eyeing up a home base in the UK by renting out a new home at Kensington Palace. The couple, who are doting parents to two young children, are reportedly hoping that the move will please Harry's older brother Prince William.

A source also claimed to US mag OK! that by staying at the property and furnishing it themselves, it will prove to William they are serious about coming back.

Meanwhile, royal expert Duncan Larcombe added to Bella magazine that this is Harry and Meghan's biggest gesture when it comes to rebuilding their relationship with the rest of the royals.

Duncan said: "After losing Frogmore, they need a base in the UK, and it's likely this will be an occasional home and somewhere for them to stay when they're here rather than anything permanent. But this is a clear sign that they are trying to make amends with the rest of the family.

"In the months since Harry's book Spare, which was published in January, we have seen a softening in Harry and Meghan's attitudes towards the rest of the royals - if nothing else, in keeping their mouths shut," he added. "We've had six months of them not saying anything about the royals to fuel the beast, and time heals.

"That's a healthy sign because they've got a long way to go to be back in the heart of the family with all the bridges they've burnt."

This comes a month after it was reported that Harry and Meghan were hoping to sell their $14.6million (£11.8million) mansion and move to Malibu.

The couple are currently neighbours to TV stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, with the couple attending Ellen's vow renewal at her home earlier this year.

While Meghan and Harry have made some great memories in their home, it seems they've been weighing up the reasons why they should move, such as Meghan's Hollywood career and her childhood memories of surrounding areas.
