For 17 years, Emmerdale's David Metcalfe, played by Matthew Wolfenden, has kept viewers riveted through various twists and turns, from rocky romances to a surprise baby on his doorstep. Now David is reportedly set to leave the village for pastures new, and fans have been left on tenterhooks wondering how his final scenes may unfold.

With this in mind, the Mirror has turned to ChatGBT to find out what exactly AI thinks will happen to the fan favourite ladies' man, and, if its guesses turn out to be true, it looks set to be a "dramatic and emotional" goodbye you won't want to miss.

Seemingly a fan of Emmerdale, an AI ChatGBT robot predicted: "The exact details of David Metcalfe's exit from Emmerdale have not yet been revealed, but there are a few possible scenarios. One possibility is that he could leave the village for a new job offer. As a successful businessman, it is not out of the question that he could be headhunted for a position elsewhere in the country or even abroad. This would allow him to start a new chapter in his life and pursue his career goals.

"Another possibility is that he could be killed off. This would be a more dramatic exit, but it is also a possibility given that David has been involved in some dangerous situations in the past. For example, he was shot by a hitman in 2019 and was nearly killed in a car accident in 2021."

While the AI prediction is intriguing, the dramatic answer contained a few inaccuracies. As any true Emmerdale fan will know, David was indeed shot back in 2019, but it was Wendy Posner's ex-husband Russ who pulled the trigger, not a hitman, with David becoming gravely wounded in the crossfire. As for David's success as a businessman, he has certainly weathered some ups and downs at the helm at David's Shop, including struggles during the pandemic. Could it be that he'll be headhunted for another farm shop in another drama-filled Yorkshire village? Time will tell.

The AI bot confidently continued: "It is also possible that David could choose to leave Emmerdale of his own accord. He has been through a lot in recent years, including the death of his wife, Maya Stepney, and the revelation that he is the father of Meena Jutla's baby. He may decide that he needs a fresh start away from the village.

"Ultimately, the decision of how David Metcalfe will leave Emmerdale is up to the show's writers. However, whatever the outcome, it is sure to be a dramatic and emotional one. In the meantime, Matthew Wolfenden, the actor who plays David, has said that he is 'excited' about his future and is 'looking forward to new challenges'. He has also thanked the fans for their support over the years."

Wolfenden, who is married to former Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb, has not yet publicly confirmed his departure, and Emmerdale has yet to make an announcement. According to sources, however, writers are currently working on an exit.

A TV source told The Sun: "Matthew has had an amazing time on the soap, but feels ready for a change. He hasn't been getting any gritty storylines recently so wants to see what else is out there. He's a fan favourite so will get a lot of support in whatever he decides to do next. He's very excited about the opportunities available. He's only just announced he is leaving so scriptwriters are working out his on-screen exit. It's possible David could be killed off."

The Mirror has previously reached out to ITV for comment on Wolfenden's reported departure.
