Drew Barrymore was rushed off stage during a live talk with actor and musician Reneé Rapp at 92nd Street Y in New York. The Hollywood actress' alleged stalker had approached the stage throwing Drew off guard before she was escorted off.

Security guards kept the alleged stalker at bay as he appeared to attempt a conversation with Drew. As she saw him approaching, she said: "Oh my god, yes? Hi!" before he responded: "You know who I am. I need to see you at some point while you're in New York."

Drew has yet to speak out about the matter, but fans have been quick to rally behind her in support after the incident. Fans expressed concern online, noting that the events are "scary beyond belief" and that changes to the laws and police involvement may be warranted. Others were simply concerned for Barrymore's safety overall and sent well-wishes to the Hollywood star.

One social networker said: "Omg? Poor drew!! She doesn’t deserve this!! Sending lots of love her way!! Hopefully people stop stalking her!!" and another remarked: "So scary. thankfully she's surrounded by people, but just imagine the times when she's alone."

It comes after Drew opened up about the complicated relationship she has with her mother after reflecting on her tumultuous childhood. The talk show host's troubled life growing up in the spotlight soon after making her acting debut at the age of seven in the iconic Steven Spielberg flick ET has been heavily documented.

The 48-year-old told New York magazine: "I don't want to live in a state where I wish someone to be gone sooner than they're meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to f***ing grow in spite of her being on this planet."

However, after reflecting on her comments, she later expressed regret, saying that she still "cares" about her mother, Jaid, 77. "I didn't feel good [saying that]. I do care. I'll never not care. I don't know if I've ever known how to fully guard, close off, not feel, build the wall up," she explained.
