Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver has been left ‘incensed’ after discovering scammers have been using her image to flog weight loss food supplements.

The 59-year-old soap star is familiar to millions as Corrie character Eileen Grimshaw - the bubbly Street Cars switch operator on the long-running ITV drama. Sue has played the role of Eileeen since the year 2000 and has appeared in over 2200 episodes.

In recent months, fans have noticed that Sue is much slimmer than usual after she underwent a transformation thanks to a change in diet and stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last winter. But now it seems some opportunists are trying to hijack Sue’s weight loss for their own financial gain, by claiming that she used their products to shift the pounds.

Now the soap star has taken to social media to furiously deny that she has been taking supplements - and revealed that a health issue was a reason she continued to lose weight after her time in Australia for I’m A Celeb. Sue shared a video of herself on Instagram where she appeared flustered and frustrated.

Addressing her followers, she said: “I’m really, really sad that I have to actually make this video. But, I’ve had quite a lot of messages over the last couple of weeks asking me about… keto dummies.”

She continued: “There is obviously some scam going around saying that I lost weight using keto gummies. Dummies? I dunno. Well, it’s c**p. It’s a scam. And if you’ve been taken in by it, I am so, so sorry.”

Sue then explained that she was enraged that the scammers were using her image to promote their product. She fumed: “It’s outrageous. And I just want you to know that I would never, ever, ever advocate anything like that. I’m incensed. I’m absolutely incensed.|

She then explained how she had lost weight in the past year. She said: “Yes, I lost some weight last year. I stopped drinking and I went in the jungle. Yes, I have lost weight this year. But not from any diet.”
She candidly went on: “I had some ‘women’s health issues’ and I lost quite a lot of weight. Too much weight. I look shocking at the minute. And I’m actually trying to put on weight. I’m absolutely fine. All those things have been dealt with. You get to a certain age, as a woman… things happen.”

She then urged her fans not to take supplements in an effort to shift excess weight. She pleaded: “Life’s too short to worry about dieting and finding quick fixes. And just, you know, be happy with yourself. Just… you’re a beautiful human being as you are. It drives me insane and it’s a lesson to all of us.”

She added: “People sometimes lose weight for other reasons than actively trying to lose weight. So let’s just be kind to each other, let’s support each other. And I’m gonna go and eat a pie.”

Keto gummies, not dummies as Sue had suggested, are a food supplement that claim to help detoxify the body and support the digestive system. However, some medical experts believe the products only offer minimal support for those hoping to lose weight - and want that products claiming to help shift significant weight are unlikely to be genuine.
