Catherine Zeta-Jones reckons King Charles was a bit "saucy" when she was awarded her CBE in 2011.

The Welsh actress, 53, was invited to Buckingham Palace with her husband Michael Douglas and children, Dylan and Carys for the honour, which she was given for her film and charity work.

Taking to Instagram, sharing an unseen video from the special day, which included her family admiring paintings at the palace, the actress wrote: "Monday Memories! The day I took my family to Buckingham Palace, they seem very much at home, yet look like they’re casing the joint."

Catherine spoke about meeting the future monarch after the ceremony, commenting on a photo of Charles pinning her medal to her dress. While on the David Letterman show, she joked: "Check out his hands, I dunno. I love the royal family but he is being a little saucy."

The Chicago star previously revealed her husband Michael had not long fought off tongue cancer before her special day, which she said left the Queen's son concerned.

Catherine said at the time: "It means a lot to come home with my family and to be honoured in this way - very emotional, rather nervous I must say, and it was worth (it) to have Michael in good health to be able to enjoy it (with me).

"Obviously we talked about Michael. The last time I saw His Royal Highness, Michael had just got his treatment, so he was concerned, but he was very happy to hear... he's well on the road to recovery."

Catherine and Michael recently went on a lavish trip to Portofino, Italy where they were pictured soaking up la dolce vita aboard a yacht with their friends. The pair appeared to be enjoying some rest and relaxation after Michael spoke about the intrusion of social media on celebrities' lives.

The veteran actor, 78, has had a stellar career, which has spanned more than five decades, but he insists people sharing their thoughts online has been a detriment to his privacy. Michael also said the belief is echoed by his long-time pal, Leonardo DiCaprio, 48.

The Basic Instinct star told the Daily Mail he no longer has the "freedom" he used to have prior to the rise of social media. "Things have changed a lot before social media- before social media you had more secrets.," he confessed.

"You were able to have quiet gatherings together without everyone knowing. Now, wherever you go - I was talking to Leonardo DiCaprio about that - you get a sighting and then people text the thing and then the next thing you know, there's a 100 then a 1000 people that are connecting." He then complained: "You don't have that kind of freedom as before."
