Arsenal are set to bank around £4m from flop pair Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos as they close in on summer moves.

The duo, who made 90 appearances for the Gunners between them earlier in their career, both look set to be on the move sooner rather than later. Greek defender Mavropanos is closing in on a return to the Premier League with West Ham.

It is suggested that David Moyes ’ side are set to pay German side Stuttgart around £20m for his services as they aim to bolster their defence. Meanwhile, his former teammate Guendouzi could also be with a new club before the end of the transfer window.

According to various reports in Italy, French midfielder Guendouzi is currently in talks regarding a potential switch to Lazio. Discussions are apparently at an early stage but his representatives have already approved a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

It is suggested that Guendouzi’s current club Marseille want to receive €15m (£12.7m) for his signature. The now 24-year-old could well have been back in the Premier League previously, with former Arsenal boss and current Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery keen on a reunion.

The Midlands side made a bid for Guendouzi back in January but failed to agree a deal with Marseille. It was expected that Villa would renew their interest but links have since grown quiet.

Should both Mavropanos and Guendouzi seal their reported moves sooner rather than later, the Gunners could well be set to secure themselves a useful windfall. The £3m deal that originally took the former to Stuttgart included a 10 percent sell-on agreement, meaning that Arsenal would be due around £2m.

After a loan spell in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin, Guendouzi was sold to Marseille for around £9m. That deal also included a 15 percent sell-on clause, which could mean Arsenal banking another £2m from any move this month. That amount will no doubt be useful given the Gunners’ need for more signings before the end of the transfer window.

The North London side have already spent over £200m this summer after the arrivals of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. The latter has already picked up a serious knee injury following his move from Ajax and is likely to miss large swaths of the campaign.

Mikel Arteta could potentially be tempted to re-enter the market to find more defensive support. “Well, we didn’t plan obviously with this injury,” he said. “We have to assess now what the options are, what the best way is to get the best out of the players we have. As I said, my biggest challenge now is to get the best out of the players we have.

“I cannot control anything that is not here. And we are always open and we have to be open and react if something happens, not only with an injury but with the market as well – and that’s what we are doing.”
