Woman, 22, found dead after telling mum she was heading to friend's house
A young woman was tragically found dead after she told her mum she was headed to a friend’s house.
Lauren Carmichael told her mum Lorraine Oates on Friday 4 August that she was heading to a pal’s house. But the 22-year-old, who was in the process of applying for her master’s degree, never arrived. The next day she was found in Runcorn, Cheshire, having sadly died.
The recent graduate from York St John University, was reported missing by her mum three hours after she left home and failed to arrive at her friend’s house. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and because there’s an unnatural cause of death, senior coroner for Cheshire Jacqueline Devonish reportedly set an inquest date for February next year.
Lauren’s mum told The Liverpool Echo: “I had never not had a response from her; my baby always responded and told me where she was going. On the evening of August 5, not long after I had returned from searching for her again, police arrived and delivered news of my baby being found, shattering my world in a split second.
"My daughter was a warm, bright light of joy and the most incredible sense of humour, quick witted, passionate and super intelligent. She had recently graduated from York St John University and was in the process of applying for her master's degree. Her dissertation was published, so clever, so very clever and so very beautiful inside and out."
Nursery apologises after child with Down's syndrome ‘treated less favourably’Lorraine continued: "My beautiful, brave, intelligent baby girl Lauren left this world on Friday, August 4. My heart is broken, the light has left my life. I gave birth to her and love her with every single fibre of my body. My girl gave me life, she gave me a reason to be, a reason to want the best for us. She awoke a part of me that I never knew existed or ever thought could be. She was my saviour, my beginning.
"My girl never failed to make me laugh, her humour was just wasted, she should have been on stage, at times she did not even know how funny she was. That's the thing you see, she never knew, how beautiful, how intelligent, how worthy of everything she was. I wish she saw what I could see. She is my best friend, we did everything together. Too delicate for this world. My girl is with her grandad now, in another, better, brighter, calmer world, with colours you couldn't imagine and surrounded by love and beauty. May my baby rest in peace now."
Lauren's friends shared their memories of her on social media following the shock news of her death. Alisha Dutton said: "I loved you with my whole heart Lauren, and I don’t know what I’m going to do without you in my life. RIP Beautiful."
Nyah Thomas described her as "a lovely girl who always made everyone laugh and cheered them up no matter what" and "one of the sweetest girls I knew." She said: "I’m still in shock from the news. I still remember all the laughs we shared and having our silly moments in high school and college. The kindest heart who always made everyone smile, tried to cheer anyone up who was upset even if you didn’t know them. My thoughts are with Lauren’s family and close friends right now."
Nicole Louise Bridge said: "RIP Lauren, still have those photos from high school in form, we were good mates with a good friends group, you made everyone smile, even though we had our differences along the way I would never imagine this happening, fly high girl, thoughts are with the family."
