Victim 'chopped up' and shot as man with sword attacks sports contest wounding 3

Three people have been wounded after a man with a sword attacked them at a sports contest.

The horror incident happened at the Derby Kabaddi grounds in Alvaston, Derbyshire today at around 4pm.

A witness described a man being shot and then attacked with a sword, saying: "One man was shot and then when on the floor chopped up with a sword."

Video footage on Twitter reportedly shows crowds running away as what are thought to be gunshots are heard.

Photos from the scene show armed police. Some witnesses claim two gangs were responsible for the violence.

People were being warned to leave the site, though some had to leave their vehicles due to them being blocked in. Derbyshire Police said in a statement: "We were called to a large scale disturbance in Elvaston Lane, Alvaston at 15.51 on Sunday 20 August.

"Three people have been injured, one seriously.

"They have all been taken to hospital. There is a large police presence in the area and officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, is asked to contact us quoting the reference 739 of 20 August.”
