For those looking to catch the last of the summer sun, a “mesmerising” and quaint village on the south coast may be the perfect place to satisfy your needs.

Beautiful, accessible, and relaxing, Bosham - pronounced ‘Bozzum’ - provides an easy and cheap getaway from the hustle and bustle of working life - or just a break from your usual surroundings. The West Sussex village may be smaller and less popular than the typical seaside destinations of Brighton and Blackpool, but that’s exactly where its charm lies.

It has been described by visitors as “mesmerising”, with one describing the village on Tripadvisor as a “lovely quaint coastal village” with “beautiful views over the quay”. They said there is plenty to do and see in a village that has a rich history dating back to the Roman times. In the 8th century, it was the 6th most important village in Sussex.

Another review said a “historic old ancient church stands proudly overlooking the tidal estuary”, while another describes it as “simply beautiful” and a “great place for a wedding location”. The harbour is “calm and peaceful” with “stunning views of the sunset”.

A short distance from Chichester, Bosham is very tranquil with a population of fewer than 3,000. Unfortunately, most could only dream of living here, as it is not uncommon to find homes worth £2million.

The village is steeped in ancient history and was once home to King Canute's palace. It is also a sanctuary for species including wildfowl, shelduck, wigeon, Brent geese, and waders. Perhaps the jewel in Bosham's crown is West Wittering Beach: miles of golden sand lined with pastel-coloured beach huts.

West Wittering was named one of the best beaches in the UK last year, according to data gathered by Premier Inn, and we can see why. Located on the Manhood Peninsula of Chichester, it is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The dog-friendly beach offers views out towards Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, making it the ideal place for a lazy stroll. If bird-watching is your thing, there are no end of feathery friends here.

But it's not just the wildlife you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for. The area is particularly loved by celebrities with Nicholas Lyndhurst, Kate Winslet, and Keith Richards just some of the famous residents.

If you want to combine a trip to Bosham and West Wittering beach, car is the best option as it's an hour by public transport between the two - owing to the awkward layout of the land and the rover that splits them.
