Disgraced rugby league star Joe Westerman has a new partner after splitting from his wife following his involvement in a viral sex scandal.

The Castleford Tigers player was caught on camera performing a sex act on a woman in an alleyway behind Greggs in February. His wife Lauren broke up with him and kicked him out of their home after the video was shared widely on social media.

Westerman issued an apology in which he vowed to “work on my decision-making around alcohol” and was fined and ordered to do community work by Castleford. The 33-year-old has now managed to move on with local estate agent Alison Hopkinson, who has confirmed to MailOnline that she is in a relationship with the loose forward.

“Yes, that's right but I don't want to say anything further, thanks,” Hopkinson said. The 34-year-old has two young children of her own and is reportedly estranged from her husband Carl.

The couple went public with the relationship six weeks ago by sharing photographs of them together. Father-of-three Westerman shared a photo of them together at Pontefract races and put a love heart emoji next to her name on Instagram.

In his first interview since his shameful drunken behaviour, Westerman told Mirror Sport this week: “The first few weeks were tough. It was a massive mistake on my front, a stupid drunken mistake, which shouldn’t have happened. Rugby-wise, I put it to one side and I think I’ve played some of my best rugby again.

“I’m pretty good at leaving stuff off the field when I walk over that line. But it’s made me have to re-evaluate a lot of things. I am happier off the field and my kids seem happier, which is important as it was hard on them. And it’s very amicable at the moment [with my ex-wife].”

Westerman blamed his behaviour on alcohol and claimed not to remember anything about the incident. Writing at the time, he said: "Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions.

"I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my team-mates. I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”

His comments came after his primary school teacher wife Lauren wrote: "Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me!!!!!!" She added: "We have three children one of whom is almost 15 and she doesn’t need to see things like this all over social media!"
