The wife of disgraced Castleford Tigers star Joe Westerman has spoken out after her husband apologised over a sex act video which went viral on social media.

During a clip seen by The Mirror the 33-year-old, who has two caps for England, was filmed carrying out a sex act with a woman in an alleyway. Mother-of-three Lauren Westerman had earlier taken to Twitter to confirm that the woman in the video was not her.

She said: "'Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me!!!!!! We have three children one of whom is almost 15 and she doesn't need to see things like this all over social media!'

Castleford released a statement on Monday evening stating that they had fined the star who would also carry out a community service which will include educating “young people on the effects of alcohol” as well as the “dangers of social media when in the public eye”.

Now Mrs Westerman has spoken out, telling the MailOnline that she hasn't spoken to her husband about the video and insisted that it was not her filmed.

Mrs Westerman also added that she wishes the incident 'had never happened'. She added: "My poor children!'

"I haven’t really spoken to my husband. I’m seeing to all the children. There’s nothing I want to say to be honest. I don’t think anything I say is going to help."

Westerman, who has previously played for Hull FC, Warrington, Toronto Wolfpack and Wakefield over the course of his career, released a statement apologising for his actions. He said: “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions.

"I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my team-mates.

“I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”

Loose forward Westerman started his career with the Castleford Tigers, making 103 appearances before moving on to play for Hull FC in 2011. He returned to his home-town club and signed a two-year deal from the 2022 season.

Initially Castleford held an internal investigation about the video before releasing a statement announcing Westerman's fine and community service.

The club's statement concluded: “The club and its welfare officers, in conjunction with Rugby League Cares, will continue to support Joe and his family throughout this difficult time and will make no further comment.”
