One of the UK’s biggest pub chains will be handing punters free drinks for the World Cup Final on Sunday - so long as they’re there to support the Lionesses.

If you’re going to a Greene King pub for the final, make sure you turn up in an England kit, colours, or face paint, and you’ll be rewarded with a free drink.

Over 900 pubs in the UK will be providing the offer, which will be available from the hours of 11am to 2pm on Sunday August 20.

Customers will be treated to a single free drink from a choice of ales, lagers, craft beers, wines, spirits, mixers, thanks to the Lionesses knocking out World Cup hosts Australia on Wednesday August 16 with a storming 3-1 win.

England now face Spain in the final in an attempt to win the country’s first World Cup since the Men’s team’s victory in 1966. This is the first time either England team has made it to the final of the World Cup since that year more than half a century ago.

Michelle West, head of sport marketing for Greene King, said: “The team has performed incredibly over the course of the tournament, and we’re so excited for the final against Spain this Sunday. We’re asking fans to head to their local Greene King Sport pub and show their colours in support of the team, literally – all you need to do is wear England colours, kit or face paint and you can grab yourself a free drink."

This isn’t a new move from Greene King, who also offered free pints for England and Wales fans during the Men’s World Cup in November/December 2022. Any pub-goers who shared a surname with any of the players from the two national squads earned themselves a free drink.

For those looking for a bite to eat rather than drink, Krispy Kreme were giving away a box of 12 glazed doughnuts on matchdays - the more England won, the more doughnuts were shared. McDonalds were giving away World Cup backpacks along with 300 other prizes including mugs, footballs and water bottles.

Freebies were also on offer for this morning’s A-Level result recipients, with many capitalising on Nando’s offer of a free starter or quarter chicken if they brought their results envelope. But at least £7 must be spent to receive the offer.

Pizza chain Franco Manca has a history of making such offers - and a few years ago gave totally free pizzas to any students with their results paper, without any conditions or minimum spend.

It’s not too late to grab a free dessert at Bill’s for Year 13s, who will need to buy a main in order to activate the offer. Mains start at £12.95.
