The suspect in the gruesome murderer of crypto king Christian Peev was envious because he partnered with someone else instead of him, a close friend of the victim has claimed.

Police have arrested Vesco Valchinov as a suspect in the gruesome murder of 41-year-old American man Christian, whose chopped-up body parts were found by horrified plumbers in a blocked sewer in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Christian, who was a US and Bulgarian citizen, was allegedly beaten to death in his apartment in Sofia and his lifeless body was then chopped up and flushed down a toilet, ultimately blocking the drain, which is why the plumbers were called.

Some of the parts that couldn't be flushed away, including his head and some of his bones, were allegedly buried instead by Valchinov and an accomplice, according to the police.

A close friend of Christian, who knew him for over 20 years, has spoken to the Mirror about the devastating loss he is going through after learning about the tragic incident. He described Christian as a "very sweet and generous person".

The source told the Mirror: "I've been friends with [Chris] since 2004/2005. He was one of these guys that, if he loved you, or if he was friends with you, he would take care of you and protect you."

Speaking of the victim, the source went on: "He was very generous. He made a lot of money and was generous with it. He helped everyone out. I would go to his house or he come over to ours and anytime we used to go out a lot, so he would literally take care of everything.

"If you're his friend he loved you so hard and cared about you and we'd always joke with each other, but everything was always out of a loving place. It was never with any malice or hate, never had like that in him.

"He was always like, in a funny way very, like, cocky and high on himself. But it was in a very, like, comedic way. He didn't take himself very seriously. He was a total, just super loving, sweet person. I was a close friend of his and, if I brought a friend of mine out, he would treat them like family."

Christian Peev had graduated from a university in the US and built a fortune off of crypto investments. He was a regular visitor to high-society parties and events before he was murdered, and it is believed this is where he met his alleged killer, who was working as a bartender.

The close friend of the deceased said of the suspect: "[Chris] knew this bartender for about five, six years, apparently, he was always jealous of people that had money. And he was also jealous of Chris. And he was trying to go into business with Chris. He was jealous of the fact that Chris was doing business with somebody else that he didn't like.

He added: "This guy was envious of Chris, and the people that he was doing business with. And he was always jealous of him doing business with other people. So he just didn't like the fact that anybody else was making money around him. People were warning, Chris, about this guy on how something was off with him. He had a bad energy. And he was always just hating on anybody that had money."

Previous reports suggested that Christian's social circle included friends whom he would take out to bars and that he had been involved in helping Vesco Valchinov, the alleged killer, with cryptocurrency-related business.

Christian was reported missing by his cousin on August 10, who said he had disappeared two days earlier. Therefore, the gruesome murder is believed to have happened on August 8 or 9. In a press conference on the case held by prosecutors and Bulgaria's Ministry of the Interior, it was revealed that investigators reached the scene of the crime after checking the two phones of the missing person.

They said: "All contacts he had on the day he was last seen were checked. One of them was with his friend Vesco Valchinov. A camera was seized from the block where the suspect lives and it was established that he and Christian entered the entrance in the late afternoon of August 8."

The next day, the suspected killer went out alone. He came home and went out again several times during the day. But Christian was not seen. Konstantin Subotinov allegedly helped the killer hide the dismembered corpse of the victim.

When the accomplice was detained, he admitted that he helped the killer to hide the parts of the victim's body by taking some of them with his car to Vitosha and burying them there. Valchinov was arrested after fleeing to a hotel in Vitosha, but his location was tracked on his phone and he was arrested on Sunday, August 13.
