Jurgen Klopp has been handed a huge boost with Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler refusing to pursue a Saudi move for Mohamed Salah.

The Reds’ transfer plans have been decimated by clubs over in the Gulf State this summer. Captain Jordan Henderson quit Anfield to link up with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in a £12m deal.

He was quickly followed by former teammate Fabinho, who joined reigning Saudi champions Al-Ittihad. There could yet be more to follow over the coming weeks before the transfer window closes. Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker is being targeted for a big-money move, albeit Jurgen Klopp is adamant that the former Roma star will not be sold this summer.

Star forward Salah is the latest who has been linked with making a move. Liverpool icon and Mirror Football columnist Fowler - who is the manager of Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah - has revealed that he does not want the Egyptian to move this summer. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I’ll put in a word for him to stay. I want him to stay at Liverpool. But good players will always get linked here because this country and this Pro League wants good players and that’s the simplicity of it."

Fowler was also asked about the players to have left Merseyside already this summer for Saudi and is impressed with the business done. The former striker added: "I think it’s a huge statement, we spoke before about where this country wants to be.

“When you’re signing players who are playing for England, and Liverpool’s captain, it’s huge, it really is, and it just shows you the power of what can happen if you want it badly."

One of the players to move over to Saudi Arabia this summer, Henderson, enjoyed a dream start to life with his new team. Despite his Ettifaq team conceding an early goal to Ex-Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane, who was making his first league appearance for Al-Nassr, they staged an impressive comeback through Quaison and Moussa Dembele.

Fabinho’s Al-Ittihad also had an impressive start to their title defence as they overcame Al-Raed 3-0 away from home. The Brazilian midfielder was named in the starting line-up and was only withdrawn late on.

He was surprised after the full-time whistle as a supporter gifted him a Rolex watch. Fabinho has since been joined by one of his compatriots Neymar.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain has put pen to paper on an eye-watering contract with Al-Hilal. Speaking after the move was confirmed, he said: ''I believe Cristiano Ronaldo started all of this and everybody called him 'crazy', and this and that, today you see the league more and more.”
