Emmerdale set for double exit as Dan's fate unveiled in heartbreaking twist

Emmerdale fans have worked out Dan Spencer's prison sentencing could trigger a second departure from the ITV soap as the stalwart prepares to say goodbye to the village for good.

On Wednesday, Dan enjoyed one last day with Amelia and baby granddaughter Esther as his sentencing loomed over him. Dan's solicitor previously argued he should received a short sentence but, the reality of his actions hangs over Dan.

The stalwart fled the scene after punching Lloyd Sawyer, who had stalked Amelia, but, when he later died in hospital after suffering a seizure, Dan's charge was escalated. As Dan said his final goodbyes to Amelia, Emmerdale fans pointed out the young mum's biological father lives away from the Dales and she could be tempted to leave the village if faced with the prospect of raising her daughter on her own.

One tweeted: "Amelia should go and stay with her biological dad, permanently #emmerdale," and another questioned: "Why doesn’t Amelia go and live with her dad? #Emmerdale." A third added: "#Emmerdale I just remembered that Dan's not even Amelia's dad."

Amelia is the daughter of Dan's brother Daz Spencer but, for 11 years of her life she believed Dan was her father and continues to refer to him as such. Actor Liam Fox may just be taking time away from the ITV soap to fulfil other work commitments after being cast in St Helens' Theatre Royal's production of Aladdin, which runs from seven weeks from September 2 to January 14.

The length of Liam's exit has been kept secret from ITV fans with Liam recently telling Good Morning Britain viewers that he "could neither confirm or deny" whether he will be taking a break or saying a final goodbye to the Dales.

Opening up on his "last few days in the village", Liam told press, including Mirror: "When I read the scripts, it was like: 'Wow, this is awesome.' He's kind of taking it all in and realising that he's going and getting support from other people in the village. There's some lovely stuff.

"Before he goes, he goes into the Woolpack and Man Club are there and really supporting him. It's really well written, really nice stuff. It made me cry a few times reading it, so yeah, very emotional, lovely stuff. I feel very lucky to get that sort of script around the story."

Liam went on to tease his character's prison sentence, he said: "He's scared about how long he's going to get. I think he's presuming he's going to get three years or something like that. He's got it in his head, you know, after 18 months he might be out and everything. But even so, can he cope with 18 months? Is that something Dan can get his head around? Whatever Dan does, when he comes out, if he comes out, he's going to be a different man. Somebody like Dan will not benefit from prison."
