Officials have launched an investigation after 33 people were struck down with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a go-karting track.

Brits who took a trip to Proport Indoor Karting (owned by Gridline Racing) on Tuesday, August 15, were hoping for an exciting day of exhilarating racing. Instead, 33 people left the course with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning as local authorities are now launching a probe into how this took place.

The go-karters had to later visit hospital for treatment, after feeling unwell. Lincolnshire Police are working with the local council and other partners to investigate what happened and were first alerted to the incident shortly before midnight yesterday.

Meanwhile, Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board have said that they are working to ensure everyone has the necessary support, LincolnshireLive reported. One person who was there at the time with a group of friends said it was all down to a “ventilation issue”.

Adam said: "Unfortunately due to a ventilation issue, we all got carbon monoxide poisoning and ended up in Lincoln County Hospital for the night. The nurses and doctors were amazing and we are home and fine now. We’ve all drained every oxygen tank in Lincoln A&E, but all good."

The ICB has asked anyone who has not received contact from Lincolnshire Police and is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea following their visit to call or visit NHS111 to seek appropriate medical advice. A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “A investigation is underway following reports that a number of visitors to Proport Indoor Karting in Lincoln had displayed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Our Force Control Room received a report at 11.51pm on 15 August that some visitors to the venue attended hospital for treatment after feeling unwell.

“Those affected had visited the venue that day. Officers have been making contact with people believed to have been at the venue to advise them of the appropriate action to undertake should they have any concerns. Anyone who had been to the venue and is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea should call or visit NHS111 to seek appropriate medical advice. We are working with public health agencies, Environmental Health, and the City of Lincoln Council as part of this investigation.”

Clair Raybould, Director of System delivery for NHS Lincolnshire ICB said: "We are working together across the health and care system to ensure we are able to support the small number affected quickly and safely following reports of people feeling unwell following their visit to the karting centre. We would ask anyone experiencing symptoms linked to this to seek medical advice via NHS111.

"We would also like to reassure the public that, unless they have been to the centre on 15 August specifically and are also experiencing symptoms, they do not need to act."

Gridline Racing have been approached for comment.
