DIY SOS star Jason Liversidge has sadly died at age 47. The proud dad-of-two had been battling motor neurone disease (MND) for over a decade before his untimely passing. Jason, who hailed from Hull, was diagnosed with the condition in 2013.

He and his family appeared on the BBC show in 2015 and quickly stole the hearts of the nation with his touching and poignant story. Jason's devastated wife Liz revealed the tragic news on Facebook on Tuesday.

"Jason Liversidge died peacefully at home surrounded by his girls at 22.59 on the 5th August 2023. Thank you for being the best husband and father that we could ask for," she wrote. "You will be forever young and remain alive always in our hearts and minds. We love you! Fly free my love."

Jason and his family appeared on the show when host Nick Knowles transformed their house into an accessible haven for the dad-of-two.

Away from his stint on the BBC One show, Jason was also a daredevil charity fundraiser, who set a world speed record in a custom-made electric wheelchair.

Jason, who was 37 when he was diagnosed with the disease, laster set a new speed record of nearly 67mph (108km/h) at Elvington Airfield near York in 2020 - seven years after discovering he had motor neurone disease.

He said at the time he wanted "to leave a legacy for his girls" and raise money for the MND Association, with his wife describing him as "a bit of an adrenaline junkie".

Jason, who was originally from Scarborough, was also involved in trialling a synthetic voice with a Yorkshire accent before his untimely death.

The former DIY SOS star leaves an incredible legacy behind him, having broken records for the fastest motorised wheelchair, climbed Mount Snowdon and abseiled from the Humber Bridge, all in spite of his condition.

After hearing the news of Jason's sad death, tributes have flooded in with many people praising his inspirational efforts to raise awareness of MND. “Absolutely heartbreaking. He fought so hard for so long. Rest now, thinking of you all," one person penned.

“Jason did a lot for MND, may his legacy continue to inspire others," someone else echoed. While a third added: "“Jason was a true inspiration! A brave hero who absolutely made the most of his life and fought incredibly hard every day.

"He raised the profile of MND enormously, fundraising, breaking records by doing all the amazing and crazy challenges. Always thrill-seeking and pushing himself.”
