Stevie Turner has without a doubt gone down in Bargain Hunt history after he was filmed jokingly strangeling expert Charles Hanson after a colossal loss at an all-important auction.

Last year, the 58-year-old Liverpool native re-appeared on the BBC One show in a classic episode when expert Charles was tasked with a mission to help Steve and his pal Bill to find some unique items to sell at auction.

However, things soon took a turn for the worst when one of the items Charles chose made a staggering loss - leaving Steve highly unimpressed and angered.

The episode in question saw the expert incorrectly estimate the worth and desire for a golf-embossed Vesta case, which dated back to the Edwardian times. However, things took a turn when Charles soon came to the realisation that he had drastically overestimated the value of the antique item.

Despite being priced at a reasonable £220, the red team managed to snap up the vintage item for £195. However, much to their disappointment, the case sold for much less at the price of only £80.

The contestants were left highly disappointed by the loss, and Steve took out his frustration by jokingly blaming Charles before strangling him after the unexpected loss. At the time, viewers watched on in disbelief as Steve proceeded to grab Charles by the throat with both hands as the expert squirmed.

Opening up about the memorable moment on Bargain Hunt, Steve revealed that he felt the loss must have been a record-breaker on the BBC One show. “It lost so much money. I thought, ‘That has got to be a record-breaking loss on Bargain Hunt," he told The Sun.

Steve added that he felt like 'throttling' Charles for his huge mistake. “My natural reaction was to throttle him. I hadn’t planned it, and Charles definitely looked shocked and didn’t see it coming. I don’t think that had ever happened on the show before. We had a laugh about it after and when I saw it on TV it was hilarious.”

The former Bargain Hunt guest also shared some insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the iconic BBC One show as he explained that there was an entire ordeal the guests had to go to before appearing on-screen.

“In one part of the audition you had to go into another room where a stall was set up, talk about an item, make conversation and then do a bit of haggling," Steve told. “Some people were going over the top and trying to be dramatic to get on the show but I don’t think they got through. I haven’t seen them on TV yet anyway.”

The former guest also revealed that he and the other people applying for the show were 'guided' to certain stalls so that their expert could show off his expertise. A stark contrast to what's seen on the programme as it appears the guests are allowed to roam freely and take it all that is on offer in the antiques department.

Despite this, Steve said: “Everyone was really nice and charming. Behind the scenes, it was really friendly and lots of good fun. We had such a good time.”
