Earlier this year, Lisa Marie, Elvis Presley's daughter, passed away at the age of 54. Despite early reports that she died from cardiac arrest, her autopsy actually revealed her death was the result of a small bowel obstruction.

It didn't come out of the blue, either. Lisa had been struggling with her health for years. In the months leading up to her death, her symptoms were only getting worse. She had reportedly been experiencing nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Plus, she was the victim of some heart issues and long-lasting fevers.

Although the coroner reported that the bowel obstruction was likely the result of a complication from a weight loss surgery, there may have been something more at play. Although this is a common issue, the weight-loss procedure had happened years prior. Lisa may, additionally, struggled with a hereditary issue.

An Elvis historian, Sally Hoedel, told The Sun: "Lisa Marie suffered from digestive/bowel disorder her entire life. She referred to it as a 'chronic Presley problem' and stated that it went back to childhood for her."

While, as Sally pointed out, Lisa's bowel obstruction "has little correlation" to how Elvis himself died, he had similar problems in life. Elvis's cause of death was officially determined to be a heart attack, but, like Lisa, he spent his life riddled with health issues, including bowel problems.

Sally said: "Elvis Presley also suffered from a life-long bowel disorder and life-long chronic constipation. Although some of the medication he was taking would have further slowed his digestive system, it did not initially cause the problem. There is testimony to it being a problem for Elvis as a toddler and a teen, long before fame and prescription medication. This was also true for Lisa Marie, as her own testimony attests to it being known since childhood."

While the surgery that Lisa underwent his commonly for weight loss, it is also used to ease those chronic digestive issues. Since she was suffering them for her whole life, it's possible she was seeking relief from a pain that Sally said "seemed normal to her" for most of Lisa's life.

Sally also explained that there were plenty of parallels noted in Lisa's autopsy that were similar to her father's own health issues. Ultimately, some of these signs may indicate that Lisa's genes were at play in her death.
