Kate Middleton is said to have went to a rave alongside her close pal and society girl Rose Hanbury as the pair partied away at her Norfolk estate.

The Duchess of Cambridge was reportedly encouraged to attend the Houghton Festival after the friends caught up with each other at Rose's home.

She paid the marchioness of Cholmondeley a visit at Houghton Hall, where they enjoyed dinner together, whilst the 24-hour party took place in the background. They are said to have gone to the event without their husbands after they finished eating.

But the princess was believed to have been apprehensive at first but eventually agreed to go to the popular event in secret. A source told the Daily Mail: "After dinner, one of the guests suggested that Catherine go to the festival. Catherine was nervous about the idea, but, after much discussion with her protection officers, she went with lots of security. William wasn't there."

The four-day festival, which is the brainchild of DJ Craig Richards, was expected to welcome a staggering 12,000 attendees. The festival is described by organisers as a "celebration of art & music in the Norfolk countryside." Richards previously said that one of his favourite parts about the 1000-acre site was that there is no signal, reports the Evening Standard. He said: “Different levels of fantasy and freedom come with not having a phone. We're all on those things so much and while it's an absolute drama for us not to have phones in there while we're building and preparing, it's one of the greatest happy accidents of the festival. People leave the festival having not interacted with their phone. I mean, possibly not even to use it as a camera. If you remove phones from the dance floor, and from the campsite, you really are in a much more liberated environment.”

Kate and William have previously proved to be a lover of music after they were spotted as they showed off their dance moves in a village in Belize last year. The couple were treated to a welcome performance by locals before William started dancing with the organiser, Laura Cacho. She said at the time: "That was so exciting. A dream come true. It was fun, he was a good dancer and I told him he got the Garifuna culture in him. Kate was excellent as well and definitely has Garifuna culture in her.”

It is unclear whether Kate has previously attended the Houghton Festival. However, the Marchioness has been seen publicly with the Cambridges on several occasions including at the church in Sandringham, the service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip and the Queen's funeral. Earlier this year, it was announced that her son Oliver would be one of the King's pages of Honour at the King's coronation. He played the important role alongside Prince George.

Rose, 29, married filmmaker David Rocksavage, 63, in 2009 and went on to have his heir and spare, twins Alexander and Oliver. The Marquess of Cholmondeley was replaced as Lord Great Chamberlain after the Queen passed away in September last year. But Charles ensured that Rocksavage kept his connection with the royals secure and appointed him as his Lord-in-waiting earlier this year.
