EastEnders fans are sure they've rumbled a huge Christmas twist - as Alfie Moon battles prostate cancer.

The BBC soap has confirmed a huge new storyline for Shane Richie, as Alfie finds himself diagnosed with prostate cancer. Bosses have teased that it will be an "emotional and pivotal" storyline, with fans convinced the diagnosis could lead to a huge twist.

We know at Christmas that a man is found dead on Sharon's wedding day. The six women - Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki ( Balvinder Sopal ) - all find the body, but are they involved and did they wield the killer blow? Who is the man that has died?

Some viewers are now convinced how Alfie's diagnosis will tie in with Christmas - and they're convinced the diagnosis will bring Kat and Alfie back together, and Phil will instead end up marrying Sharon this festive season.

"I guarantee this will bring him and Kat back together," one mused, whilst a second added: "I imagine they'll want Phil to be a potential groom for Sharon and with it being Phil and Kat's date, I'm guessing they'll break up around November."

A third added: "Before Phil gets killed in the Vic at Christmas," with a fourth penning: "Without doubt this will bring Kat and Alfie back together as Kat will finally come out from the glass box she's put herself in. #Eastenders."

"Its not too soon for a cancer storyline at all both are very different and chances are it'll reunite kat and alfie in the process and its unlikely they will kill alfie off so #EastEnders," a fifth penned, with a sixth adding: "I knew Alfie’s story was gonna go in this direction. This is defo gonna bring Kat and Alfie back together. It will be more of that unconditional love rather than a love affair."

Chris Clenshaw, executive producer, said of the upcoming storyline: "When we first embarked on this storyline we knew it was imperative that we worked alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Macmillan Cancer Support to take on and accurately portray such an emotional and pivotal storyline for Alfie, and one that many viewers may relate to.

"Shane has thoughtfully portrayed the realities of being diagnosed with prostate cancer with grace and understanding. We hope that this storyline resonates with the audience and that we represent it as sensitively, and as accurately, as possible."
