Emmerdale's Bob Hope was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack following an altercation.

The character played by Tony Audenshaw has been at the centre of a major storyline recently after his relationship with Wendy Posner appeared to be on the rocks. Wendy had been having an affair with Liam Cavanagh which was recently exposed which almost ruined the couple.

After Wendy became annoyed with Bob's behaviour, she made the decision to walk out on him but that could soon change. During Monday night's episode, Bob suffered a heart attack which could bring him and Wendy closer once again.

As Wendy resigned, Liam pleaded with her to change her mind and suggested she takes some annual leave. "Sometimes you have to make sacrifices," she said. But before things kicked off, discovered Wendy and Liam leaving a cottage together while he was looking for Archie's ball.

Bob yelled across the village that he wishes Liam was dead. Later on, he saw Wendy and her former lover Liam leaving a cottage together and assumed the pair were still having an affair. "Oh, looky here! Now, why am I not surprised?" yelled Bob in a bid to get their attention.

However, Liam tried to diffuse the situation which was caused after Wendy decided to hand her notice in. "OK Bob, you need to calm down," he said, before adding: "You're jumping to conclusions now, Wendy just popped in."

But Bob wasn't having any of it as he made an innuendo about the phrase, saying: "Popping in! That's what you've been calling it, is it? Yeah? Yeah, you two have been doing a lot of popping in these last couple of months, haven't you?"

He added: "Were you popping in and popping out, popping in and popping out just now, in there?" However, Liam insisted that the pair were not having a fling as he told Bob he would "regret" continuing with the allegations of infidelity. "Are you threatening me?" He asked as an emotional Wendy pleaded saying: "No, he didn't mean that. He meant you'll regret saying that when you realise that I've..."

"He's threatening me. Come on then, come on, come on," exclaimed Bob before he went on to say: "Bust my jaw, come on, break my nose! Come on, you've hurt me every other way! Why don't you just hit me?" As Liam interrupted saying: "Yeah, this is ridiculous, I'm not going to hit you!" Bob fumed: "Well if you won't," before punching Liam in the face, leaving onlookers including Victoria Sugden completely speechless.

"Look at her, look at her with her bedside manner," Bob fumed before he and Liam continued to argue as Liam threatened to defend himself as he raised his fists towards Bob. But as Jacob pulled Bob away, he was seen clenching his chest. While the local residents attempt to calm Bob down, he launches an attack and throws Archie's ball at Liam, which led to him falling to the floor.

But it had major repercussions as it caused Bob to have a heart attack as Liam attempted to treat him with chest compressions as Jacob called the emergency services for assistance. Jacob and Liam both managed to help retrieve a pulse from Bob with the use of CPR and the local defibrillator. After being rushed to the hospital, the blame game sets in with Wendy and Liam both feeling rather horrendous. Bob soon starts to feel emotional about the ordeal.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
