In an attempt to secure a lucrative super fight with tech rival Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk has leaked private messages between the two online.

The two have been going back and forth over the possibility of them clashing inside The Octagon which could be worth approximately $1 billion. Even UFC President Dana White offered to help stage the event, but the pair never agreed on a date or venue to stage a contest.

Musk seemingly leaked the texts to his biographer, Walter Isaacson, who shared the contents on social media. According to the post, Musk asked: “Wanna do a practice bout at your next week?”

Zuckerberg responded: "If you still want to do a real MMA [mixed martial arts] fight, then you should train on your own and let me know when you're ready to compete. I don't want to keep hyping something that will never happen, so you should either decide you're going to do this and do it soon, or we should move on."

Musk replied: "I will be in Palo Alto on Monday. Let's fight in your Octagon. I have not been practicing much, while I think it is very unlikely, given our size difference, perhaps you are a modern day Bruce Lee and will somehow win."

Doubts about the fight ever taking place intensified when last week Musk claimed he wanted to push it back because he may undergo back surgery. Zuckerburg took to his social network site Threads and seemed to have all but given up on the prospect of fighting Musk.

"I think we can all agree Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on,” the 39-year-old wrote. "I offered a real date. [UFC president] Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won't confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead."

He added: "If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."

Zuckerburg seems more than ready to step inside the octagon after he was pictured training with UFC fighters Alex Volkanovski and Israel Adesanya last month. The current UFC Featherweight champion commented on Zuckerburg's skills, which he said would surprise some people.

"I guarantee you, you guys would be very surprised," Volkanovski, said during an appearance on the TMZ Sports TV show. "As you can see from that photo, I think that's what raised a lot of eyebrows, he's in shape. But it's not just about vanity, the muscles are functional.

"I mean you can see it that he's in shape but he really is in shape. It's not just looks, he really is, mate. He trains, he's pretty athletic, he's coordinated and he's committed. He's got a passion for it."
