Harry Kane has agreed to move to Bayern Munich and will now fly out to complete the transfer after being given the green light from Tottenham.

The striker has been chased by the Bundesliga champions for much of the summer, as Spurs rejected multiple bids. But on Thursday morning, the Premier League side finally accepted an £86.4million bid for their captain, whose contract is set to expire next summer.

The ball was then in Kane's court and there had been a feeling that he was leaning towards remaining with Spurs. Now though, it appears he really will be departing the Premier League for Germany, having reached an agreement to move.

According to The Athletic, personal terms are in place on a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena. While he had been reluctant to leave after the start of the new season, it appears that he will be free to go before Spurs take on Brentford on Sunday.

Having agreed to the move, Tottenham have now given him permission to fly out to Germany, which he will do on Thursday morning. The medical and the signing of his contract are expected to take place by the end of the day.

Kane departs as Tottenham's record goal-scorer, having overtaken Jimmy Greaves last season. He scored 280 goals in 435 appearances after breaking through from the club's academy.

But crucially, he failed to win a trophy during his time with Spurs, which has been the main driver of the speculation around his future. With little progress on a new contract, club chiefs finally decided to sell him.

In moving to Bayern, he will join a club who are perennial Bundesliga champions and who will be one of the favourites to win the Champions League. If he does complete a move to the German giants, Kane's last game will have been a 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

In typical fashion, he scored four of his side's goals before being substituted. Kane then completed a personal lap of honour after the final whistle, with boss Ange Postecoglou calling for a breakthrough to be made in discussions over his future.

"There's no doubt that I would use Harry. I didn't need today to tell me that. He's world class. The way this team will play will help him as well. We'll create a lot of chances for him," the Spurs boss said.

"I certainly wouldn't talk about contracted players at other clubs. I'm not at Bayern though so they can do what they want. The guys have been working hard and trying to adopt the methodology.

"It's fair to say our squad is too big at the moment and there are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I'm not involved in that. I think we'll see some movement out in the coming weeks."

Spurs fans were left devastated by the news that Kane is set to leave, though others wished him well for his move. One said: "Spurs chances of a trophy have drastically reduced."

Another added: "He will certainly be missed." A third said: "He’s gone, I’ll miss him.. always assured goals." While a fourth concluded: "Tottenham are finished. Could easily see them not getting top half now."
