Donald Trump shows off golf swing as he makes appearance at LIV event
Donald Trump was seen showing off his golf swing ahead of hosting this week's LIV Golf tournament at his Bedminster course in New Jersey.
Since the breakaway circuit's formation last summer, keen golfer Trump has built a strong bond with Greg Norman and Co. In its maiden season, the former President of the United States hosted LIV twice, at both his Bedminster course, and Doral setup in Miami for the circuit's 2022 finale.
In 2023 Trump has taken charge of both Bedminster and Miami once again, and has only strengthened his LIV connections after taking on a third event in Washington D.C. earlier this year.
As well as being on hosting duties, Trump is always keen to get his own clubs out too and took to the course by opening the tournament's Pro-am on Thursday. A clip of the former President's opening tee shot was shared across social media, and golf fans were left impressed by his skills.
One fan wrote on Twitter: "It’s [his golf swing] decent, it works and plays it well for an old guy," whilst a second shared a similar view, adding: "all things considered it’s pretty decent." One even compared Trump's effort to that of Masters champion Jon Rahm, commenting: "Is that Jon Rahm."

While he may be no Rahm, Trump is said to be more than handy on the fairways, with Golf Digest reporting back in 2019 that his handicap stood at an impressive 2.8. Many have often questioned the legitimacy of his golf game, though, especially after the release of Rick Reilly's novel 'Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump'.
Throwing the allegations towards Trump, Reilly wrote: "To say 'Donald Trump cheats' is like saying 'Michael Phelps swims'... He cheats at the highest level. He cheats when people are watching and he cheats when they aren't. He cheats whether you like it or not. He cheats because that's how he plays golf … if you’re playing golf with him, he's going to cheat."
Cheat or not, there is no denying Trump's love for the game with 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus claiming the ex-President, "loves the game of golf more than he loves money." This is why his involvement with LIV Golf came as no surprise to many, especially considering his connection to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia bosses.
Heaping praise on LIV's Saudi backers in 2022, the American said: "I’ve known these people for a long time. They've been friends of mine for a long time… frankly, what they’re doing for golf is so great. What they’re doing for the players is so great. The salaries are going to go way up.”
