Sandra Bullock cared for her boyfriend when he was sick

Sandra Bullock announced she would be taking a break from her Hollywood career last March, with a source now revealing she used the time away to care for her sick partner.

Bryan Randall, Sandra's long-term boyfriend, died over the weekend following a secret three-year battle with ALS, a family statement confirmed. He was just 57 years old.

His family said: "It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS." The statement also mentioned how Bryan wanted to keep his ALS diagnosis "private" and his family honoured that request.

One of Sandra's last big appearances was when she stepped out on the red carpet in March 2022 alongside Channing Tatum. The actors were promoting their film The Lost City.

According to a source, Channing was one of the few people who knew Bryan had been diagnosed with the degenerative disease. Since then, Sandra has only been seen in public a handful of times.

Shortly after the red carpet appearance, the actress announced her plans to step back from acting. "I want to be at home. I'm not doing anyone any favours who's investing in a project if I'm saying, 'I just want to be at home'," she said.

Speaking on CBS Sunday Morning, Sandra added: "I just want to be present and responsible for one thing." A top Hollywood producer has now revealed she spent her time off caring for Bryan.

"I don't think people knew that Sandra actually took off to care for Bryan," they said. Speaking to Page Six, the source also referred to Bryan as Sandra's "beloved". They added: "I'm gutted for her."

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke say ALS, which stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It states it is: "A rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons—those nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement." These include muscles we use to choose to move to produce movements like chewing, walking, and talking.

There is currently no cure for the disease. It's reported that people with ALS are expected to live between two and five years after symptoms are first noticed.
