Sandra Bullock was an 'amazing' caretaker to boyfriend Bryan Randall

Sandra Bullock is said to have been an "amazing" caretaker to her boyfriend Bryan Randall before his death.

Her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado shared a look into the couple's last moments together as she posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute following the late photographer's three-year battle with ALS. Posting a photo of Bryan before his death on Saturday, she wrote: "I'm convinced that Bry has found the best fishing spot in heaven and is already casting his lure into rushing rivers teaming with salmon."

She then went on to explain that Sandra was alongside him when he passed away. She said: "ALS is a cruel disease but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home. Rest in peace, Bryan."

Bryan's family posted an emotional statement revealing that he had passed away. He had been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) three years ago.

Also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, ALS is a rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons—those nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

There is no cure for the disease and it is reported that people with ALS are expected to live between two and five years after symptoms are first noticed. Up to 10 percent of people however live for at least 10 more years.

The family statement said: "It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS. Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."

They added: " We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan. His Loving Family."
