Ruby Wax has shared how she was kicked off a plane by Donald Trump after she laughed about his plans to become President of the United States.

The comedian and writer, 70, revealed her awkward encounter with the former president as she was totally unaware his dreams would one day become reality and so laughed in his face. Ruby shot to fame as a comic interviewer in the 90s with her show Ruby Wax Meets... as she spoke to many high-profile celebs including Imelda Marcos, O. J. Simpson, and Pamela Anderson. She explained she wanted to "see the human behind the mask".

Appearing on Kate Garraway’s Life Stories, Ruby shared how she would always have a meal with her interviewee where they would reveal "really personal things". Her rule was that she would never bring it up the next day, otherwise she might lose their trust. However, her meeting with Donald Trump didn't quite go to plan.

Ruby revealed: "But Donald, you know, when a man treats you like an idiot you kind of become an idiot. Because he knows females, he just has sex with them. But he couldn't figure me out. He really was so fierce and so vicious. He said 'you are angry with a smile'. So he got me, because I was backed into a corner.

"He did say I want to be the President of the United States and I thought it was a joke. I thought what a sense of humour this guy has, so I started laughing and he said 'that's it, I want her off the flight'. So we only got to 33,000 feet and we went straight back down again. It's not a good show."

The comedian had previously told the story on Good Morning Britain, where she revealed what happened afterwards. "He wouldn’t speak,” she told Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins. "So my crew and I landed and we were stuck in Arkansas with nowhere to go. We ended up finding him in Nebraska judging a Miss Nebraska contest."

Ruby recently told The Mirror how she believes the days of having access to A-listers for long interviews are over. She said: “There’s no celebrity that I would do now. In those days, if the interviewee wanted me around they’d tell the PR to get lost and we’d go off for sometimes hours or days. It wouldn’t happen now.”

In her sit down interview with Kate Garraway, Ruby shared her “drive of a Rottweiler” to leave her parents’ home in the US and - had she not escaped - believes she “would be dead”. The mental health campaigner described her childhood as a “lock-in”, watching out of her window “with longing” as other children played with their parents in the park opposite her family home.

Speaking about her parents, who had come to the US from Austria before the Second World War, Wax said: “They took the war from Europe and brought it to the kitchen. They slung these verbal grenades at each other and I was in the middle, especially because I was born into the land of the free and the brave and I could have a really great life and they were nipped in the bud at 22, so they wanted to make it hard (for me). They were pretty violent with each other (and me), you’d have the s**t knocked out of you," she shared.
