Valve has now listed refurbished Steam Decks for sale and this reduced price makes handheld gaming way more accessible.

For those who are yet to jump into the handheld gaming market, Valve is now offering refurbished Steam Deck units at a discounted price. The refurbished Steam Decks are on sale right now, however, stock is running out quickly.

Refurbished Steam Deck units are technically second-hand units, this might be because they were unwanted and returned, or because they faced issues that have since been repaired. Valve states on the retailer page for its refurbished Steam Deck units that "each Certified Refurbished Steam Deck has been thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units".

  • Refurbished Steam Deck 64GB model – £279 / $319 (usually priced at £349 / $399)
  • Refurbished Steam Deck 256GB model – £369 / $419 (usually priced at £459 / $529)
  • Refurbished Steam Deck 512GB model – £459 / $519 (usually priced at £569 / $649)

Included with your purchase of a refurbished Steam Deck is the same one-year warranty as a new Steam Deck, a fully tested refurbished power supply, a carrying case and a quick start guide. All units go through a full factory reset and software update.

Price, price baby

This refurbished Steam Deck deal means you can get your hands on a handheld gaming PC for even less. The Nintendo Switch, which is currently one of the cheapest gaming handhelds that runs games natively, comes in at £259.99 / $299.99 / AU$469.95. With the refurbished Steam Deck 64GB coming in at just £279 / $319, it's now priced only slightly higher than the Nintendo Switch.

With a plethora of handheld gaming devices hitting the market, prices are only increasing. The Logitech G Cloud coming in at £329.99 / $349.99 (Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed but conversions come out to roughly AU$515) for a system that doesn't even run games natively was making me lose hope for handheld gaming.

Despite the Asus ROG Ally being an absolutely great device, it comes in at a pretty hefty £699 / $699 / AU$1299, which you can get a decent desktop gaming PC or laptop for. This has priced out a lot of gamers who want to get into handheld gaming.

This reduced price of the Steam Deck will help make PC gaming much more accessible to the masses, allowing you to play some of the best Steam Deck games for even less. Good job Valve.
