Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po were a staple of many 90s children's childhood. The Teletubbies, which was originally released in 1997 and ran until 2001, featured four colourful creatures with televisions on their stomachs who lived in the magical world of Teletubbyland, where they eat Tubby Custard, play and dance on a hill.

If the Teletubbies, with their unique antennas, hold a special place in your heart, prepare to never look at them the same way again. Although the four friends might look small, it turns out they are actually freakishly tall - even taller than humans.

The tallest, Tinky-Winky, is actually 10 feet tall, a fact that was recently revealed in a viral Tweet as the purple character was shown next to real-life humans. The Twitter account @fasc1nate, explained: "Contrary to their on-screen appearance, the characters were huge: Tinky Winky was 10 feet tall, Po was 6 feet 6 inches, Laa-Laa was 6 feet 5 inches and Dipsy was 8 feet".

That's right, it turns out cute little Po isn't actually all that little. In the tweet, the user continued: "To make them appear small, the show was filmed on a massive set in Wimpstone, Warwickshire, which was kept secret for a long time. However, once the show's location became known, it became an unintended tourist spot, with people trespassing to visit the 'Tubbytronic Superdome'. Frustrated with the disturbances, the landowners decided to flood the set."

Laa Laa actor Nikky Smedley, previously told Newsweek: "When we first saw them, we were taken back, because they were huge. We wanted the small children who were watching it to think we were the same size as them. To get those proportions right, we had to be really tall, and then everything around us had to be really enormous."

As you can imagine, the costumes were heavy, hot and sweaty, and the actors, who could only breathe through a small hole in the costume's mouth, had to periodically move the heads so they could catch their breath. Nikky added: "It was difficult to get used to not being able to see your own feet. Every time we cut, the dressers would run over to us, feed us like babies, hand us water bottles and mop our brows."

Having recently spotted the Tweet, many Teletubbies fans were freaked out to learn how big the creatures were. One person wrote: "Something about this is really creepy," another agreed, adding: "This looks so cursed", while a third added:"Well, I'm gonna have nightmares about the Teletubbies tonight."

When the Bafta-winning BBC show was axed, the TV set was removed, leaving just a gentle grassy slope that became somewhat of a tourist attraction. The owner decided that enough was enough, and decided to flood the field to deter people. Speaking to Sunday People, Rosemary, 63, said: "People were jumping fences and crossing cattle fields. We're glad to see the back of it."
