A family have come under fire after their kids were spotted dangling over the edge of a cruise ship.

Social media users' legs have been left wobbling after a terrifying photo of the kids began circulating online. In it the two children can be seen sitting on a railing with their legs appearing to dangle over the edge.

It isn't completely clear how high up they are and whether the drop below is straight into the ocean, but the lack of a safety edge or and the thing railing they're perched on makes their position look particularly precarious.

The image was posted on the Carnival Cruise Line Miami Blog Facebook group, with the caption: “Where are the parents?” Unconfirmed speculation has suggested that the ship belonged to the Royal Caribbean group, which is soon to launch the largest cruise vessel in the world.

Robert Dempster, who said he was travelling on a separate ship close to the vessel pictured, claimed the youngsters had been on the Royal Caribbean ship 'Serenade of the Seas'.

“This was taken a week ago today at CocoCay. The kids were on Serenade of the Seas and the photo was taken from someone on the cruise I was on, on Oasis of the Seas. Unbelievable, but thank goodness it didn’t end in disaster!” he said, Tyla reported.

The cruise liner states that ‘sitting, standing, laying or climbing on, over or across any exterior or interior railings or other protective barriers, or tampering with ship’s equipment, facilities or systems designed for guest safety is not permitted’ in its conduct policy. If you breach the rules, you can be removed from the ship or face legal action.

The picture was met with horror online, with many commenters suggesting the kids' parents should face some repercussions for letting them getting into such a position. One person commented: “Them and their parents should be banned for all cruise ships.”

Another added: “Holy moly! My anxiety just went out of control seeing this.” A third wrote: "Oh my gosh! They will be banned for life if Carnival figures out who they are.”

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said that guest safety is of high importance to the company and that all passengers must abide by their guest conduct policy.

“The safety of our guests and crew is our upmost priority at Royal Caribbean International. To ensure the safety of everyone on board, we have a guest conduct policy that all guests must adhere to. We remind all guests of this policy, and we take any violations to this policy very seriously," they added.

For those who want to book a cruise and adhere to all of the safety rules, then Grace Sandwiith, commercial director at Iglu Cruise, has some expert tips on how to bag yourself a bargain and save some money on a future holiday on the seas.

If you'd like to save money while also avoiding the hassle of airports, luggage restrictions and flying to your destination - and also limiting the size of your carbon footprint - then no-fly cruises from the UK are the perfect solution, she advises. They are a stress-free way to hop aboard and set sail to one of the many incredible destinations on offer.

"As a total holiday no-fly cruises are likely to be some of the cheapest in the market due to no flight being required," Grace advises. "Whether you're heading to the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, the Baltic or the Norwegian fjords- to name just a few- taking a no-fly cruise from the UK offers some wonderful ships to choose from."
