Emmerdale's Harry actor has been on show before - and had huge Corrie role

Emmerdale star Robert Beck makes his return to the show on Monday night, and ITV soap viewers will no doubt recognise him. The husband of Coronation Street actress Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, has quite the TV credentials.

He's a familiar face in soap land, having actually been on the very same ITV soap over 20 years ago in a different role. He was a key and memorable character in this time, so his return to the village has left fans stunned.

This time around, Robert will be playing Harry who is a new villain linked to fellow newcomer Corey. But over two decades ago in the 90s, Robert's character was very different. Long-time viewers of the soap will remember him has Gavin Ferris, a partner of Bernice Blackstock.

He was on the show for 78 episodes in 1999. Viewers who watched the show back then may recall he was quite the womaniser, but in a twist the character was caught kissing Jason Kirk amid his engagement to Bernice. This resulted in the pair splitting up and he left the village for good.

This isn't his only big soap role though, with him playing a key character on Corrie back in 2008. Fans may remember a much-loved character called Liam Connor was killed off on the show in this year. His death was ordered by his love rival Tony Gordon.

Liam was deliberately run over and killed, and the driver Jimmy Dockerson was played by actor Robert. Jimmy was one of Tony's henchmen and appeared between 2008 and 2009.

Robert also appeared in another soap twice, Hollyoaks. On the Channel 4 soap he played corrupt businessman Fergus Collins, before he was killed off the same year he arrived. Prior to this, Robert played DS Parker on the show in 2013, and he investigated the death of Texas Longford.

The actor's soap credentials continue, with him also appearing in Doctors three times in different roles across 2003 and 2017. Further TV roles include Casualty, The Bay, Waterloo Road and The Bill.

As for his new role, he's set to leave some much-loved characters in peril. Teasing what Harry will bring to the show, the soap's producer Laura Shaw promised "twists and turns" along the way. She said: "We are thrilled to have Robert joining the Emmerdale family to play Harry. Dangerous and unpredictable, Harry will bring drama and peril to some of our most loved villagers, with some twists and turns along the way that our viewers really won't be expecting!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
