Naked and Afraid star's horror as he wakes to find ticks feeding on his privates

It doesn't take long for Naked and Afraid contestants to realise why the challenge is a tad unsafe. In the case of contestant Andrew Shayde, he woke up to find that ticks had latched onto his penis.

Immediately, he is clearly freaked out and has to get to removing them one by one. He counts each of the bugs. For those curious, there were a total of five. Andrew said: "Last night was a full assault. It was terrible."

Naked and Afraid is a reality TV show where two strangers must survive while fully naked in the wild for 21 days. They're allowed to bring one helpful item with them, but otherwise they're on their own.

The 15th season premiered on February 19, 2023.This isn't the only time that ticks had taken to unwanted areas on Andrew, but certainly the first time on his "little castaway". Medical teams have previously had to help when ticks crawled into his butt crack. It was certainly a painful moment for him.

He explained on the show: "I have a butt tick, and just because it’s somewhere we can’t really get to, the medical team is going to get it out just to make sure it doesn't lead to infection or anything else.”

When the medical team later checked on those butt tick bites, they found out he had a severe infection. In fact, they found some signs of MRSA which is a life-threatening bacterial infection. Immediately, the medical team got to work and drained the bites. Since they didn't administer any anesthetic, Andrew yelled in pain.

Not long after his butt ticks, another contestant got stung by a scorpion. She shot up one morning holding her hand.

Elizabeth told the camera: "So, I just got stung by a scorpion on my middle finger. It burns in waves. It is awful. Oh, I can't even explain how much this hurts."

In some ways, she lucked out since it wasn't a sting on her genitals, but she still needed some help from the medical team. Both Andrew and Elizabeth were encouraged by medical professionals to step away from the game.

Andrew wasn't happy, but did agree to leave. He said: I think I thought of every scenario, but being medically tapped for a bug just wasn’t one of them.”
