Rebel Wilson has been rushed to hospital after injuring herself filming a stunt for new film Bride Hard.

The Aussie actress is playing the role of a secret agent who struggles to fulfil her duties as the maid of honour at her childhood best friend’s wedding. The project, directed by Simon West, was filming in Savannah, Georgia.

However, filming has now had to be halted while Rebel receives treatment.

The 43-year-old Australian actor showed off her bruised and battered face in a glum selfie revealed she'd needed stitches.

“NOT the way I wanted to end this movie!” she wrote in an Instagram Stories post, alongside a selfie. “Three stitches and in hospital last night after a stunt accident at 4am.”

It is a rarity for a Hollywood movie to be filming at the moment due to the ongoing strike that has rocked the industry. However Rebel's film was granted a pass thanks to its status as an independent production.

The nasty accident comes just after Rebel opened up about her family life and desire to have another child in a new interview.Speaking to E! news, the mum said: "I would like to have another child," though she acknowledged it will take some work and a bit of luck. It's just like, well, is that possible? I have to do IVF. We'll see how it goes." she mused.

Rebel is currently mum to nine-month-old Royce with fiancée Ramona Agruma. Gushing about parenthood Rebel said: "Roycie is such a miracle. And if she's my only child, then amazing."

Rebel, best known for films Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, announced last November that her baby girl Royce Lillian was born via a “gorgeous” surrogate.

At the time, Wilson told her followers: “I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle!

“I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making … but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care.

“Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!”

Wilson revealed in June she was in a relationship with Los Angeles-based fashion and jewellery designer Ramona.

At the time, the Isn’t It Romantic star wrote on Instagram: “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.”

The Sydney Morning Herald tried to out Wilson before she went public with her new relationship with a woman. Senior journalist at the newspaper Andrew Horney later admitted it was a “mistake” and “genuinely regretted that Rebel has found this hard”.

In February this year, she announced that she and partner Ramona were engaged.

It's been a whirlwind few years for Rebel who made headlines during lockdown after losing a considerable amount of weight after a lifestyle overhaul.

The actress said she had been 'typecast' in Hollywood because of her size and was looking forward to branching out. Speaking to the PA news agency, she said: “I kind of feel like transitioning into different kinds of roles and into more dramatic roles and it’s really awesome. Of course, I’ll still be doing comedies as well. But I think it will kind of change the roles that people see me being cast in.”
