As Meghan Markle kicked off her 42nd birthday festivities early this year, her husband Prince Harry was nowhere in sight when she, her friend Portia De Rossi, and a few other gal pals took a girls trip to see the new Barbie movie in theaters.

According to Page Six, the group watched Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated film at a Santa Barbara theater while Prince Harry hung back in their Montecito home. After catching Margot Robbie's feminist box-office hit, Meghan and her friends kept the fun going at the lovely San Ysidro Ranch hotel in Santa Barbara Monday evening.

A source told the news outlet that Duchess of Sussex posed for snaps with a bachelorette group that partying at the expensive hotel. The insider said that Meghan stopped to go over to the bride-to-be and uttered a two-word message. The Duchess wished her "good luck" on her upcoming marriage.

While Harry stayed home for the birthday outing, he didn't forget to plan a romantic evening together for his wife's special day. On Wednesday, the famous couple dined at the Tre Lune restaurant, a popular Italian spot among A-list celebrities in California. At the expensive restaurant, the pair were accompanied by a group of their friends including Meghan's close pal Heather Dorak, along with her husband Matt Cohen.

During the birthday celebration, Meghan and Harry seemed to be have a great time as they were spotted smiling and laughing together. The birthday girl looked flawless wearing a gorgeous $240 (£188) strapless black and white maxi dress paired with strappy black sandals accessorised with a brown Cult Gaia bag. Her husband looked equally fashionable accompanying the Duchess of Sussex wearing a pale blue button-up shirt paired with white linen trousers, in photos obtained by the US Sun.

As for Meghan's real birthday, which falls on August 4, Meghan and Harry planned to spend the day at home to celebrate with their two young children four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet. On Meghan's lifestyle blog The Tig, she once wrote that she uses her birthday as a day to make resolutions for herself for the upcoming year.

An insider told Page Six that Harry is “purposely staying behind to be with Meghan" on Friday because he is soon embarking on a trip to Asia to appear at the ISPS Sports Values Summit-Special Edition in Tokyo. During Harry's trip next week, he is booked to arrive in Japan and then head to Singapore with actor Nacho Figueras, where the two will participate in the 2023 Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup at the Singapore Polo Club.

Meghan has not yet confirmed if she will be planning to join her husband during his trip to Asia, but it has been reported that the couple will be going to the Invictus Games together in Düsseldorf, Germany.
