A sheriff escorted a four-year-old girl into her first day of preschool after her own father was killed while on duty.

Zemirah Knight was walked into school by Sheriff David Davis and several deputies after her father Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Wilson Knight died from a fatal stabbing by an inmate in 2021. Touching video, released by Bibb County Sheriff's office in Macon, Georgia, USA, shows Sheriff Davis and several law enforcement officers, walking Zemirah down the corridor.

Deputy Christopher Knight was a valued member of the team, and Sheriff David Davis stayed in touch with his family after his passing. Lieutenant Linda Howard, of the Bibb County Sheriff's office, said: "Sheriff David Davis and Deputy Christopher Knight's mother Cheryl Knight remain in contact after his death.

"She reminded Sheriff Davis that Zemirah was starting Pre-K and invited him to escort her to her classroom. Little did Cheryl know, Sheriff invited Deputies that personally worked with Deputy Knight. Zemirah was very excited to see everyone. She thanked everyone with a hug before she walked into her classroom."

Zemirah's father Christopher Knight, 30, of the Bibb County Sheriff's Department was moving an inmate at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center in Macon to another cell block just before 2:30 a.m in April 2021. the sheriff's office said in a statement. The inmate, Albert Dewitt Booze, 22, was being moved after he had made comments that he wanted to hurt himself, authorities said.

Booze, 24, faced charges including felony murder and aggravated assault, court records show. Booze, who remains jailed, pleaded not guilty to the charges in May 2022 and is set to stand trial at a later date.

Knight had worked with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office since 2018. Officer Theodore Bedell of the Jefferson Police Department GA said in a tribute at the time: "My heart goes out to the family, both blood and blue, after this sudden loss. May you be in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your service, dedication and ultimate sacrifice to the citizens of the community. RIP."
