Coronation Street will air a return for one former character on the ITV soap on Friday night. The scenes will come as bad news for one resident, who isn't keen on the returning character.

Amid trouble at The Rovers Return inn and pub, a character who was last on screen five years ago makes a comeback, and it's clear he hasn't changed one bit. Henry Newton makes his way to the street as he gets back in contact with Gemma Winter.

Viewers may remember he had a thing for her a few years ago, while Gemma seemed glad to see the back of him. That said, Rovers barmaid Gemma seeks work with the brewery heir after her shifts drop at the pub.

Her husband Chesney Brown isn't keen though judging by next week's spoilers, knowing their history and not liking Henry very much. On Friday, Gemma will be spotted getting into his car after confirming some new shifts – so how will Chesney react?

Gemma starts work for Henry, having lied to Chesney that she’ll be in a different department. It's clear Henry is keen to get to know Gemma again, so could her and Chesney hit the rocks? It seems he could be sticking around too judging by next week's spoilers, with hints he could be the new owner of The Rovers.

The famous pub is at risk of closure, but a familiar face could save it and take over the venue. In upcoming scenes its fate remains unknown, after a lack of funds and business. Landlady Jenny Connor is forced to seek help and a new buyer in a bid to stop the pub being destroyed.

After she's forced to ask brewery owner Philip Newton for help, Henry's father, hoping they might buy the pub from her, Jenny is disheartened to learn they do not want the venue after her attempts to impress them fall flat. Later in the week, Gemma goes to see Henry and is stunned when he admits he wants to spend more time with her.

Later, Gemma tracks Henry down and tells him that if he promises to save the pub, she’ll accept his job offer. Henry is thrilled, and soon Gemma confirms that Henry has agreed to buy the Rovers but on the condition she takes the job as his PA.

airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and X.
