Supermodel Elle Macpherson is known for her age-defying looks and luscious blonde locks. The 59-year-old Australian beauty has always appeared to be in good shape - but it turns out even she was forced to reassess her lifestyle when she hit 50.

Speaking in a previous interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, she revealed she "wasn't feeling very well" and "wasn't looking very well". She added: "I noticed my skin, hair and weight... I was just not feeling inspired, I had sugar cravings and poor digestion."

In order to find out how she could turn things around, Elle went to her nutritionist Dr Simoné Laubscher, who was stunned to see how dry the supermodel's skin was, as well as a "little bloated belly". The naturopath and nutritionist was able to come up with a simple diet change that changed her into a "different person".

Before going to the nutritionist for help, the Sydney-born model was addicted to caffeine and sugar, and also had a lot of inflammation due to a leaky gut, which is a weakening of the intestinal walls, which can allow partially digested foods, toxins and bugs to leak into the bloodstream. It can also cause symptoms like bloating, indigestion and stomach pain.

However, Elle has now managed to turn all that around by following a mostly plant-based diet, as well as small amounts of fish, eating minimal sugar and caffeine. She also takes a Super Elixir supplement, which is a green powder supposed to improve gut health, improve digestion, enhance energy levels and clear the skin.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Dr Laubscher shared the number one tip for people looking to eat like Elle is to cut out products that aren't organic. According to her, the supermodel eats organic food "100% of the time", which has curbed her sugar cravings. Dr Laubscher recommended eating "at the very least free range or organic" to avoid any added hormones.

Dr Laubscher explained to the publication: "She came to me over 10 years ago and we put her on a nutritional plan to make her well. So as a naturopath, we gave her a core eating plan. She wakes up and breaks her fast with my wellness water (water and lemon) a lot of people are drinking enough water but they're not hydrating well enough."

She added: "She will then her nourishing protein powder or the Super Elixir (daily greens). For lunch she has a big superfood salad with some avocado, beetroot, nuts, and then she will have a warm meal in the evening, she will try not to have anything raw.

"She sometimes has small wild fish, and she is careful where they come from. Elle has a chef but it's hard to be vegan and get the right amino acids so she will eat fish, but not every day." After making a complete body transformation, Elle went on to set up her supplement company WelleCo, which Dr Laubscher formulates.
