Gemma Collins has shared an update after her beloved mum Joan was rushed to hospital on Tuesday night with a mystery illness. The former TOWIE star, 42, was left distraught when her mum, 67, became suddenly sick before she was admitted to hospital for further tests.

Earlier this week, Gemma took to Instagram to share a snap of her mum with tubes coming out of her nose as she lay in a hospital bed. Gemma told her fans: "Such a scary moment when mum come to hospital. Thank you queens hospital Romford for all your doing." She also shared a sweet picture of her mum in happier times and added: "Love your parents as hard as you can. Thank you to everyone looking after mum @joancollins1 at QUEENS HOSPITAL ROMFORD."

After addressing the 'scary few days' which she and her family endured, Gemma thankfully shared a positive update on her beloved mum as she posted a sweet snap of Joan sharing an embrace with her grandson Hayden who paid her a hospital visit. Alongside the sweet family snap, Gemma wrote: "My beautiful Hayden come to see his Nanny. Mum should be back home in a few days with us and thank you for all your kind messages it sure is scary when your parents get older."

In more photos, which Gemma shared to her Instagram stories, it appeared that Joan was busy with another hospital visitor as her husband Alan – who also suffered a serious health scare after contracting Covid during the pandemic – sat by his wife's bed as she recovered from her mystery illness.

Jessica Wright commented a string of heart emojis while a fan added: "My mum was in ICU at Queens last year, they saved my mums life. Ever grateful. Wishing your mum better x."

Gemma hasn't yet revealed what caused the hospital dash. However, earlier this year Gemma revealed her mum had a health scare when she found a lump between her breast and armpit. Thankfully, a few weeks later, Joan was given the all clear having been told that the lump was not in fact cancerous.

Speaking to The Sun about her mum's health scare Gemma said: "It was over the phone. I was in the back of a taxi in London and I was like, ‘Are you all right, mum? Where are you?’ — as we say every day, ten times a day. She said, ‘Ah I didn’t want to tell you, but I’ve had a lump in my breast. I was like, ‘What?’, and she said, ‘But it’s fine I’ve got the all-clear’. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Why didn’t you tell me?'"

Joan has also suffered health woes in the past due to her rheumatoid arthritis, which got so bad to the point that Gemma even feared she would die. "I always tried to be really strong, so when I was with her I was happy, upbeat, like 'Come on mum, you’re gonna be alright!'," she previously told.

"Then I’d leave the house, get in my car and cry for hours... There were moments where me, my dad and my brother said, 'Mum’s going to die'." Gemma recently opened up on her own health, saying she is taking a holistic approach. "I've learnt, as I've got older, there are no quick fixes," she told the Mirror.
