Jake Paul claims "dust" in Dubai air made him sick before Tommy Fury fight

Jake Paul has claimed that dust in the Dubai air made him sick before suffering his first boxing defeat to Tommy Fury.

YouTube boxer Paul was beaten by split decision when he faced Love Island star Fury in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. 'The Problem Child' spent some time preparing for the fight in Dubai to acclimatise himself, but things didn't go plan as he was struck down with an illness before the fight.

'The Problem Child' has still given Fury credit for beating him but insisted a rematch would go in his favour. A second fight against the Brit is something that Paul wants to pursue, but he is otherwise occupied this Saturday as he faces UFC legend Nate Diaz. Paul detailed the list of issues he was going through before facing Fury, from relationship problems to mental struggles.

"I was going through things outside the gym," Paul told Stephen A Smith. "A breakup, mentally, getting sick. Not being on point and trying to jam pack a camp in six or seven weeks, there just wasn't enough time for someone at my level to prepare. I get to Dubai and there's dust in the air that I'm apparently allergic to, so I'm sick for another 10 days.

"Everything that could have went wrong in that fight went wrong, it is what it is. I'm not sitting here and making excuses, I lost. I was the one who chose to get in the ring and put everything on the line, no one is going to remember the excuses I make. I lost fair and square but I'm going to come up stronger and eventually I want to go back after Tommy Fury."

Fury is set to face Paul's bitter YouTube rival KSI next as the pair meet in Manchester on October 14. KSI has promised to do what Paul couldn't by becoming the first man to beat Fury in the professional ranks, as the Love Island star goes into the fight with a flawless record of 9-0.

"The plan leading up to Tommy Fury was always to fight Nate Diaz after, the Fury discussion is still in the works. I know that I'm going to go back and get that win. He barely beat me at my absolutely worst, I put him on the canvas so it's just a necessity to run that back. I know that when I'm going into the ring feeling at my best, I'm going to destroy him," Paul added.
