Meghan Markle's friendship and bitter fallout with MIC's Millie Mackintosh
Meghan Markle has it all – the royal husband, the Duchess title, the millions of dollars and a small family but there's one thing she also wanted – to appear on Made In Chelsea.
However, her dream of making a cameo appearance on the E4 reality show never materialised despite having ambitions to become known in the UK. Before meeting Prince Harry, while she was unknown in the UK, Meghan, 42, was known for playing Rachel Zane on the US legal drama Suits, as well as appearing on Deal or No Deal in the States.
In 2013, the actress turned Duchess jetted to the UK to promote herself and the legal drama and befriended a string of UK celebrities. All of who, she no longer speaks to. Her old pal Lizzie Cundy claims Meghan made it no secret she wanted to land a spot on the E4 programme.
One of those was former Made In Chelsea star, Millie Mackintosh who claims she was "ghosted" after she was no longer "useful" to Meghan. The pair had become friends after meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, and allegedly hit it off straight away. Millie claims they instantly started bonding over troubled marriages after Meghan divorced her first husband, Trevor Engelson.
Following Meghan's arrival in London, Millie claimed she handed over her "little black book" of contact information and even headed off to the luxury Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds where they sipped on "rosé and margaritas". Speaking on her Mumlemmas & More podcast, Hugo Taylor's wife said: "When we first met I was married, going through a bit of a turbulent time, and I got divorced, and she was divorced so we had quite a lot to talk about.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'"We hung out a handful of times, we weren't best friends, but whenever she was in town she'd let me know and we would just hang out." Discussing their trip to the Cotswolds, she added: "What I thought was going to be a day of yoga ended up being rosè and margaritas in the pool. It was a really fun afternoon, there were pictures taken of us riding around on the bikes. That was the last time I saw her."
But like all good things – their bond ended and Meghan "ghosted" her when her relationship with Harry was put in the public domain. Millie said: "I messaged her and said 'Hey I hope you're OK, thinking of you," but Meghan's response shocked Millie, who explained: "She sent me this really abrupt message, that was really unlike any of our communication before." However, she didn't disclose what the brutal message said. "I think I wasn't useful anymore," she added.
She continued: "It's not like I messaged her asking if it was true, that was none of my business. What I read from that message was that she needed a bit of space, to cool off. I didn't message her again, but I did expect that we would stay in touch. I thought she'd message back and say, 'Sorry everything is a bit stressful right now'. I never heard from her again. I felt like she'd basically told me to f**k off in that message. So I did. And we haven't spoken since."
Millie believes that Meghan decided to cut contact as she wasn't able to be "associated with Made In Chelsea" after she and Harry confirmed their relationship was serious. However, she has stated she would love to know why Meghan decided to cut all contact.
In November 2016, Harry broke royal protocol and issued a statement confirming their relationship as he addressed his private life. In a statement shared by his former communications secretary via Buckingham Palace, said: "His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment." It added: "Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm."
