Mike Tyson offers honest view of Jake Paul's status in boxing world

Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson can relate to Jake Paul as he labelled him the "anti-hero" of boxing.

Paul, 26, looks to bounce back to winning ways this Saturday against UFC legend Nate Diaz after suffering his first boxing defeat in February at the hands of Tommy Fury. Paul's business partner Nakisa Bidarian admitted the YouTuber boxer's is on the line as he could retire from the sport if Diaz hands him a second consecutive defeat.

'The Problem Child' has divided opinions of the boxing world in recent years as many purists have insisted he is making a mockery of the sport. Those with a brighter outlook have praised Paul for introducing a new, younger audience to boxing and 'Iron Mike' is amongst those who feel the YouTuber has only benefitted boxing since ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring.

“ Jake Paul, he’s not a villain. He’s an anti-hero, he’s not a villain. He does hero s*** but he just doesn’t go by hero laws. Listen, he did more for boxing than some of the champions did. I’m a fan of people who know how to put a**es in seats. Those are the guys I look up to," Tyson said during Paul's 'Untold' Netflix documentary.

"I love to see him talking s***. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed cute kid is getting mean. ‘F*** you, you can’t fight, you’re a piece of s***, you’re nothing and this’. That’s beautiful. That sells papers. You’re entertaining us, you’re the champ. You’re my hero. So we gotta keep this guy bright because he’s gonna save boxing as long as he continues to fight. He’s got the light, he’s touched."

Paul is known for badmouthing his opponents and engaging in heated pre-fight build-up but unfortunately for him, Diaz has refused to play his role in promoting the fight. The UFC legend walked out of his launch press conference and face-to-face interview with Paul as he believes promotion for the fight isn't needed as his career speaks for itself.

"For my own pleasure, I like to fight people where it's rowdy because it's more entertaining for the fans. It's not as fun if there's not as much s*** talk and funny moments leading up to the fight. That's why I do this, for my own joy and passion for this game. So it is disappointing for myself," Paul said.
