Gemma Collins has admitted she was "scared" as her mum Joan was rushed to hospital last night with a mystery illness. The Only Way Is Essex star, 42, gave an update to her fans following the terrifying night.

The reality TV star took to Instagram to share a snap of her mum, 67, with tubes coming out of her nose. Gemma told her fans: "Such a scary moment when mum come to hospital. Thank you queens hospital Romford for all your doing." She also shared a sweet picture of her mum in happier times and added: "Love your parents as hard as you can. Thank you to everyone looking after mum @joancollins1 at QUEENS HOSPITAL ROMFORD."

Gemma's followers rushed to support the media personality as Jedward wrote: "Your mom is the most loving and caring soul ever sending healing energy." Jessica Wright commented a string of heart emojis while a fan added: "My mum was in ICU at Queens last year, they saved my mums life. Ever grateful. Wishing your mum better x."

Someone else said: "This is so true Gem make the most of every minute." Gemma hasn't yet revealed what caused the hospital dash. However, earlier this year Gemma revealed her mum had a health scare when she found a lump between her breast and armpit. Joan was given the all clear.

Speaking to The Sun, Gemma said: "It was over the phone. I was in the back of a taxi in London and I was like, ‘Are you all right, mum? Where are you?’ — as we say every day, ten times a day. She said, ‘Ah I didn’t want to tell you, but I’ve had a lump in my breast. I was like, ‘What?’, and she said, ‘But it’s fine I’ve got the all-clear’. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Why didn’t you tell me?'"

Joan has a screening every year and was diagnosed in 2016 with ductal carcinoma in situ, in which the cells in the lining of the breast tissue become cancerous. It's not the first time Gemma's mum has been rushed to hospital with a mystery illness. In 2019, Gemma shared a loving tribute to her as she revealed she was receiving medical care.

Sharing a picture of her mother at happier times with a Louis Vuitton shopping bag in her hand, Gem went on to promise her that they'll be back on the town together very soon. “Wishing my beautiful mummy a very speedy recovery who’s in hospital tonight," Gemma wrote.

"We will have you shopping very soon again JC... hope this post cheers you up." Her hospital dash was the second in that year, after she sought medical help while battling pneumonia. Joan's also suffered health woes in the past due to her rheumatoid arthritis, which got so bad that Gemma even feared she could die. "I always tried to be really strong, so when I was with her I was happy, upbeat, like ‘Come on mum, you’re gonna be alright!'," she once told The Sun.

"Then I’d leave the house, get in my car and cry for hours... There were moments where me, my dad and my brother said, ‘Mum’s going to die’." Gemma recently opened up on her own health, saying she is taking a holistic approach. "I've learnt, as I've got older, there are no quick fixes," she told the Mirror.
