A husband allegedly targeted by his own wife and her Bahamian lover in a murder-for-hire plot has helped bail the suspected conspirators out of jail.

Former beauty pageant queen Lindsay, wife of former college football star Robert Shriver, was arrested by local police over allegations of planning her husband's murder in collusion with her Bahamian lover.

Prosecutors have now withdrawn their objection to the release of Shriver, 36, her alleged lover Terrance Bethel, 28, and Faron Newbold, 29, the suspected hitman. This came after officials spoke with estranged husband Mr Shiver, Bahamas Court News reported.

The alleged elaborate plot to kill Robert Shiver, a former Auburn University football player and long snapper for the Atlanta Falcons, was uncovered on July 16 when authorities were investigating a break-in at Grabber's Bar and Grill in Abaco. During their probe, police discovered WhatsApp messages discussing the sinister plan. It wasn’t immediately known which of Shiver, Bethel or Newbold owned the phone.

Lindsay Shiver and Terrance Bethel allegedly began their affair while the Shiver family was residing in The Bahamas. Upon discovering the extramarital relationship, Robert filed for divorce.

However, authorities assert that Lindsay, determined to carry out her heinous plan, recruited her lover, Bethel, and allegedly hired Newbold to execute the murder.

The trio appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley on Friday, where they were remanded to jail without entering a plea.

She agreed to wear an ankle bracelet and remain in The Bahamas until October 5 when they are scheduled to return to court.

Bethel and Newbold were granted a $20,000 bail and also agreed to wear tracking devices.

Lindsay and Robert Shiver have a history dating back to their meeting at a fitness class at Auburn University in 2007. Their relationship seemed idyllic, as evident from Lindsay's Instagram posts celebrating their love and family life, which includes their three sons, the youngest being only four-years-old.

In 2020, Lindsay Shiver wrote on Instagram, “The key to a perfect marriage, is having two imperfect people, who refuse to give up on each other. So thankful for that fitness class 13 years ago that brought us together and all of the love, laughter, and life we have created ever since! I love you babe."

Before being accused of orchestrating her husband’s killing, Lindsay Shiver was named Miss Houston County in 2005, finishing second in the National Peanut Festival pageant that year, according to the outlet.

Robert's football career took a turn after he was released from the Atlanta Falcons ahead of the 2009 season. He subsequently found a new path with Senior Life Insurance Company, where he started working in recruitment.

The Shiver family's affluent lifestyle allowed them frequent visits to The Bahamas, indulging in luxury boat rides, and even experiencing private jet travel.

Robert told The New York Post he is struggling to find the strength to tell his sons about their mother’s arrest.
