A woman convicted of killing a $30million lottery winner has claimed her former legal team ignored evidence that could have cleared her name.

Dorice 'Dee Dee' Moore, 50, was convicted in 2012 of murdering Abraham Shakespeare and stealing his vast winnings.

The Florida woman appeared in Tampa courtroom last month and claimed her lawyer "put on no defence".

"He was horrible," Moore, who was sentenced to life without parole, stated. She appeared in tears in the courtroom as she said DNA evidence that could have cleared her name was ignored.

"There was three DNAs on the carpet that no one understood that during the trial," she claimed, also adding accusations of police corruption to her list.

The hearing last month saw Moore say a recording of a key witness existed that described police corruption, but Moore recently learned they had passed away.

"They’re being paid under the table because cocaine dealers can afford it a lot," she claimed.

Moore said key witness Greg Smith was the real killer, despite him helping police with the investigation after he recorded her admitting to the killings and the subsequent cover-up.

Without evidence, she said Mr Smith's wife was having an affair with Shakespeare, giving him a motive for the murder.

Moore befriended Shakespeare in 2008 after he won the prize from the Florida Lottery in 2006. He gave most of his winnings away before she gained control of his remaining cash.

When Shakespeare, 43, became suspicious after releasing he could not access his money, she killed him. His body was found to have been shot twice in the chest and the human remains covered with a concrete slab.

Circuit Judge Emmett Lamar Battles said Moore was "the most manipulative person" he had seen and described the murder as "cold," "calculated" and "cruel" during sentencing in 2012.

Authorities said Shakespeare was killed on April 6, 2009, and that Moore attempted to make it seem like he was alive long after he had been killed.

His body was discovered in 2010, buried in a home in Plant City owned by Moore.

During the trial, police said Moore's claims of a drug dealer named 'Ronald' being involved in the killing were false and that they did not exist.

Moore made the filing in 2017, followed by an amended motion in 2019. She expanded on four claims of ineffective counsel regarding her lawyer Byron Hileman, who passed away in January.

She also claimed:

  • Her lawyer should have blocked “highly prejudicial” from a detective who said she had offered to perform sex acts for him
  • Prosecutors supposedly allowed false testimony from witnesses

A ruling is set to be issued this month.
