Two "adorable" sisters died in a horror car crash on a country road last week.

Madison and Liberty North were today named by police as victims of the two-car smash on A361 near Frome, Somerset. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of how the Volkswagen Polo and an Audi RS6 collided. Madison, 21, and 17-year-old Liberty were travelling in the Volkswagen Polo and were declared dead at the scene last Tuesday evening. The Audi driver, a 30-year-old man, remains in hospital with critical injuries.

Writing on a JustGiving page created yesterday for the family, the sisters' friend Sonya Stubbings said: "Inviting you to make a contribution to the most adorable girls whose lives were taken way too soon." The friend also shared a poignant picture of the siblings together.

Tributes have flooded in for the pair. Others wrote online of their sadness, alluding to previous serious crashes that have happened on the same stretch of road that bypasses Frome.

The sisters' aunty shared her tribute on Facebook, which reads: "Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces. My beautiful nieces Maddie 21 and Libby 17. Adorable daughters of my dear brother Jason and sister-in-law Verity. Lives taken way too soon."

Another person wrote: "Such a sad loss of two beautiful lovely girls." A third added: "Missing you both every day, I’ll forever cherish the memories we made. I can’t remember my life without you both, now I’m going to live it for you. Fly high angels, I love you xx."

More than £10,000 has been raised on the fundraising page in just 24 hours at the time of writing. Police, meanwhile, continue to appeal for information following the horror at around 10.30pm on Tuesday. They are also searching for the driver of a white VW who was in the area at the time of the crash.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "On Tuesday 25 July at around 10.30pm, officers were called to the A361 Frome Bypass following a fatal collision involving a VW Polo and an Audi RS6.

"Formal identification has now taken place and we can confirm the deceased are sisters Madison, aged 21, and Liberty North, aged 17, known as Maddie and Libby. Our thoughts remain with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time and they are being offered support by a specially-trained family liaison officer. Our investigation into the collision is ongoing and officers continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision and anyone with dashcam, doorbell, mobile or CCTV footage."
