Meghan Markle could return to Suits for reboot as producer speaks out

The prospect of Meghan Markle returning for a potential Suits reunion has been addressed by one of the show's producers in a discussion about the possibility of a revival.

Meghan, now 41, played Rachel Zane on the USA Network legal drama, which ran for nine seasons from 2011 until 2019. She however had left the show two seasons prior, with her character's on-screen departure having aired in 2018.

And although Suits concluded four years ago, it's said to have recently experienced a resurgence in popularity. This has been credited to the show now being available on streaming platforms Netflix and Peacock. It's reportedly been among the most watched shows on such platforms in recent weeks.

It has led to questions over whether a revival could be developed in the future. TVLine recently spoke to Gene Klein, who was one of the show's executive producers, about the possibility and the prospect of Meghan returning for a reunion.

Asked about a revival in light of the renewed interest in Suits, the producer said: "I've mentioned to [creator and showrunner] Aaron [Korsh] that I keep, in this era of reboots and reunions and all this other stuff, that I'm expecting a call at some point."

Gene however told the outlet that he wasn't aware of "any serious conversations" about it at the moment. He teased though: "It's just one of those things where, in this day and age, you wouldn't be surprised if somebody called you someday."

The producer suggested it could prove difficult getting everyone back for a reunion but said that he would be "delighted" if that happened. He added that working on a show for years meant that colleagues became "good friends".

The outlet similarly suggested that it may be a challenge to get certain cast members back for a potential reunion of sorts and specifically mentioned Meghan. Addressing the prospect, Gene responded: "I would assume that's just not possible."

Meghan starred in the show alongside the likes of Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams and Gina Torres. She didn't return for the final episode, which aired in 2019, following her departure from the show a few years prior to its conclusion.

The show's creator Aaron previously revealed that he hadn't asked Meghan to reprise her role in the finale. The episode was filmed was following her apparent retirement from acting amid her relationship with Prince Harry, whom she married in 2018.

Aaron told Deadline in 2019: "In the end I didn't ask, and I just thought, I'm going to respect her new life and not put her in the position of having to ask." He further commented: "We decided not to put her in that position so I never asked."
