The Royal Family's long-standing summer traditions include numerous public events and appearances.

However, one annual trip includes largely only private downtime with a break to Balmoral in Scotland where the family hunt, horse ride and fish on the sprawling estate.

William and Kate now visit with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. But despite the main Balmoral castle offering plenty of room for the royals - the Prince and Princess of Wales choose to stay in their own private residence.

The Waleses have their own property on site, a cottage known as Tam-Na-Ghar, which was gifted to Prince William by his late great grandmother, the Queen Mother, before she passed in 2002.

The modest cottage has only three bedrooms, with William and Kate choosing to keep the property extremely private - with very few images of their Scottish home on the 50,000-acre Balmoral estate featuring 150 buildings in total.

Tam-Na-Ghar is within close proximity to Birkhall, which is King Charles and Queen Camilla's residence on the Balmoral Estate, where they spent some of the coronavirus pandemic, reports Yahoo.

Balmoral estate is nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, between Ballater and Braemar. It's located approximately 50 miles west of Aberdeen. The 50,000 acre grounds have access to a wide array of breathtaking landscapes from the Dee river valley to towering mountains and rolling green hills.

A working estate, Balmoral highlights include grouse moors, the lush green forests and farmland, as well as plenty of animals from the herds of deer to Highland cattle and ponies. It's also home to Balmoral Castle, where the Queen and Prince Philip stayed for their holidays.
